Ans. Gravitation is the force of attraction that exists between any two objects with mass. It is responsible for keeping the planets in orbit around the sun and for the moon orbiting around the Earth.
| 2. How does gravitation work? | |
Ans. Gravitation works based on the principle of mass attracting mass. Every object with mass exerts a gravitational force on other objects with mass. The strength of this force depends on the mass of the objects and the distance between them. The larger the mass and the closer the distance, the stronger the gravitational force.
| 3. What is the law of universal gravitation? | |
Ans. The law of universal gravitation states that every particle in the universe attracts every other particle with a force directly proportional to the product of their masses and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between them. This means that the force of gravity between two objects decreases as the distance between them increases.
| 4. What are the effects of gravitation? | |
Ans. Gravitation is responsible for various effects such as keeping objects on the surface of the Earth, causing tides in the oceans, and keeping celestial bodies in their orbits. It also plays a crucial role in the formation and evolution of galaxies, stars, and planets.
| 5. How does the force of gravity change with distance? | |
Ans. The force of gravity between two objects decreases as the distance between them increases. According to the law of universal gravitation, the force is inversely proportional to the square of the distance. This means that if the distance between two objects is doubled, the force of gravity between them becomes one-fourth of its original value. Similarly, if the distance is tripled, the force becomes one-ninth of its original value.
