What evidence contradicts the collision theory of the Moon's formation?
  • a)
The Earth's surface shows signs of having been molten
  • b)
Venus does not have a moon
  • c)
The Moon's density is higher than Earth's
  • d)
The Moon has a large iron core
Correct answer is option 'B'. Can you explain this answer?

EduRev Class 9 answered
One of the contradictions to the collision theory is that Venus, which underwent similar early solar system conditions, does not have a moon. If the collision theory were universally applicable, we would expect other planets with similar histories to also have formed moons through similar processes. This raises interesting questions about the unique circumstances surrounding the Earth's formation.
