Dear Mom and Dad,
I’m enjoying my holidays at Grandma’s home in Kolkata. I am in love with the city and don’t intend to come back for a while. Kolkata is a huge city and is always bustling with life. Someone had rightly named it the “city of joy”. The streets are always filled with people from all races of life. In fact you will spot numerous travellers, like me, walking past its colonial monuments and enjoying the rich culture of the city.
There are museums, planetariums, libraries, cricket grounds and football stadiums, amusement parks and what not – each telling its own story from the past. I have already covered quite a few of these attractions. I visited the Nicco Park, the huge amusement park, which is often referred to as the Disneyland of Kolkata. I watched a starry show at the Birla Planetarium, which is the largest of its kind in Asia and the second largest in the world. I paid a visit to the Science Museum and the Botanical Gardens as well. The Botanical Gardens houses some 12,000 trees! Today Grandma and I are going to visit the Alipore Zoo. Grandma was saying the zoo displays a large number of animals including the Royal Bengal Tiger, African Lion, jaguar, hippopotamus, Great Indian One-Horned Rhinoceros, Reticulated Giraffe, Grant’s Zebra, Emu, Dromedary Camel and Indian Elephant. It is also a great picnic spot. It’s very hot in Kolkata. Grandma and I often spend the afternoons eating ice lollies. Grandma cooks me a lot of good food. In the evenings we take Sasha to the park. Sasha likes running and playing with a ball. I throw the ball. Sasha runs after it and brings it back to me. The children in the park love Sasha. Grandma sends her love. I will write back soon again.
Love,
Bikash
