Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong announced he will step down on May 15 after nearly 20 years as part of a long-planned leadership change. In his place, his deputy Lawrence Wong will be the next PM of the country. Lee, 72, was sworn in as the third Prime Minister of Singapore on 12 August 2004.

Under an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), Anurag Kumar (IPS) has been appointed as Joint Director in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Anurag has been appointed as Joint Director in CBI for a joint tenure of five years i.e. till February 24, 2027.

Recently an international team of researchers has released the 'World Cyber Crime Index'. According to new research, India is at 10th place in cyber crime. Under this, ranking of about 100 countries of the world has been prepared.  Russia tops the list, followed by Ukraine, China, the US, Nigeria and Romania. North Korea is at seventh place in the ranking.

The Supreme Court has appointed Justice Aniruddha Bose as the Director of the National Judicial Academy (NJAC), Bhopal. Chief Justice DY Chandrachud made this announcement during a function organized in honor of the retired judge. NJAC was established in 1993. It is an institution funded by the Government of India and run under the directions of the Supreme Court. 

Recently, Indian-American actor and 'Mean Girls' star Avantika Vandanapu was named South Asian Person of the Year by Harvard University. 19-year-old Avantika has been given this honour in recognition of her outstanding achievements and her impact in the international and Indian entertainment world.

World Art Day is celebrated every year on 15 April all over the world. The day is celebrated with the aim of raising awareness about the diversity of artistic expressions and strengthening the relationship between artistic works and society. World Art Day was officially established on April 15, 2012 during a meeting of the International Association of Art (IAA) in Mexico.

Kristalina Georgieva has been re-appointed as Managing Director of the IMF for a new 5-year term starting on October 1, 2024. The IMF Managing Director is chosen by the executive board, with Kristalina Georgieva being the sole candidate this year. Nominations for the MD position can come from an IMF Fund Governor or Executive Director. The Board of Governors, comprising finance ministers and central bank governors, is the IMF’s highest decision-making body.

Iran’s Navy captured the Israeli ship MSC Aries near the Strait of Hormuz with 17 Indian crew members aboard. Iranian officials now control the crew. Efforts are underway for their safe return. Iranian Foreign Minister Amirabdullahian stated Tehran will allow Indian officials to meet them soon. Indian Foreign Minister Jaishankar discussed their return with Iran’s Foreign Minister.

Bjarni Benediktsson replaces Katrín Jakobsdóttir as Iceland’s new PM as she resigns for presidential run. Benediktsson, former foreign minister, assumes office after Jakobsdóttir’s six-year tenure. The conservative Independence party, focusing on business and trade, forms an agreement with governing partners: the Progressive party and Left-Greens. They prioritize political stability under Benediktsson’s leadership, aiming for continuity in governance.
