Recently, a two-day 'Sagar Kavach' exercise was organised in the Lakshadweep Islands. All maritime security agencies including Indian Navy, Indian Coast Guard, Marine Police, Fisheries, Customs and other security agencies participated in the exercise.

The Lunar Polar Exploration Mission (LUPEX) is a joint mission between the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) and the Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) to explore the moon’s South Pole region. JAXA will provide the launch vehicle and rover, while ISRO will contribute the lander. Equipped with tools to measure water content in lunar sand and conduct drilling and sampling, the rover promises vital insights into the Moon’s Polar Regions.

Director General Rakesh Pal of the Indian Coast Guard opened the Indian Coast Guard Aquatic Centre in ICGS Mandapam near Rameshwaram, Tamil Nadu, on April 6, 2024. During his 4-day tour across Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Puducherry, he assessed operational readiness and infrastructure development. Interacting with officers, he emphasized a collective vision for safe seas. Established in 1977 under the Ministry of Defence, the Indian Coast Guard aimed to combat smuggling and protect marine resources, formally inaugurated in 1978 by Prime Minister Morarji Desai.

The Department of Archaeology and Museums discovered a coin hoard at Phanigiri site in Suryapet district, Telangana, from the Ikshvaku period. Phanigiri, meaning “hillock of snake hood,” is a Buddhist site approximately 110 km from Hyderabad. Excavations revealed a Mahastupa, Chaitya Grihas, viharas, and a life-size Stucco of Bodhisattva. Brahmi label inscriptions from Satavahana and Ikshvaku times (~2nd – 3rd Century A.D.) were also found, along with a thorana’s panel indicating co-existence of Mahayana and Hinayana sects.

Bilquis Mir, a water sports promoter and athlete from Jammu and Kashmir, is making history as India’s first female jury member at the Summer Olympics in Paris. Appointed by the Indian Olympic Association, she is set to officiate at the games from July 26 to August 11. HAL delivered two Dornier 228 aircraft to the Guyana Defence Force, as announced by President Mohamed Irfaan Ali.
