A good teacher is one who draws attention of students towards himself. If at any moment he finds that students are not attentive towards him, then he should start evaluating his teaching methods and find out the areas where he lags, and hence should modify his methodology, to catch attention of students and take necessary steps to improve himself.

Useful strategies for teaching students with mental retardation include the following:

• Teach one concept or activity component at a time
• Teach one step at a time to help support memorisation and sequencing
• Teach students in small groups, or one-on-one if possible
• Always provide multiple opportunities to practice skills in a number of different settings
• Use physical and verbal prompting to guide correct responses, and provide specific verbal praise to reinforce these responses

A teacher needs to ensure that all the learners in her class feel accepted and valued. To do this, the teacher should get to know the social and cultural backgrounds of her students, and encourage diverse opinions in the class. The teachers must encourage students to research and share information about their ethnic background as a means of fostering a trusting relationship with fellow classmates. She should analyze and celebrate differences in traditions, beliefs, and social behaviors. This makes students realize that their beliefs and traditions constitute a culture as well, which is a necessary breakthrough in the development of a truly culturally responsive classroom.

Brainstorming is a large or small group activity that encourages students to focus on a topic and contribute to the free flow of ideas. Buzz group is a cooperative learning technique consisting the formation of small discussion groups with the objective of developing a specific task (idea generation, problem solving and so on) or facilitating a group of people reach a consensus on their ideas about a topic in a specific period of time. So, buzz groups allow covering the discussion about different aspects referred to the same study themes, maximizing the possibilities of partition of the members of the group.
Project method is also known as project-based learning. It is a dynamic approach to teaching in which students explore real-world problems and challenges, simultaneously developing cross-curriculum skills while working in small collaborative groups. In a project method or work, learner plays a very important role right from the initial stage (i.e. planning stage) to the last stage (i.e. reporting stage). This method also includes an instructor to correct learner.
Therefore, in all these ways, the learners can practice proactively.

The parameters which must be considered while choosing the teaching methodologies include:
Capacity of the students: Choosing lecture method to teach 6th grade student will not help the teacher to attain his goal of teaching because the child cannot understand the concept just by mere lecturing. Hence to such grade, demonstration method of teaching must be chosen.
Content: Based upon the content, the teacher should decide the methodology.
Nature of the subject: Before deciding the method of teaching, the instructor must keep in mind the nature of the subject because the methods of teaching of science-based subjects is different from those of humanities.

Programmed instruction method is most suitable to teach heterogeneous group of students for self placed learning. Programmed instruction is a method of presenting new subject matters to students in a graded sequence of controlled steps.

Brainstorming is a creative group work in which group members produce large number of ideas quickly on a given topic or problems for subsequent evaluation. In this method, anyone can exchange remarks with anyone except that the participants are not allowed to criticize the ideas. Sometimes, quantity of ideas is more important than quality. Spontaneity is the hallmark of brainstorming sessions. On the spot ideas are expected.

The term 'micro teaching' was coined by Dwight Allen of the Stanford University. This is an innovative teacher training technique and focuses on developing teaching skills. This is highly individualised training skill. Micro teaching can also be defined as a teaching technique especially used in teachers' pre-service education to train them systematically by allowing them to experiment main teacher behaviours. By the help of this technique, teacher candidates can experiment and learn each of the teaching skills by breaking them into smaller parts and without encountering chaotic environment of the crowded classes.
In the original process, a teacher is asked to prepare a short lesson (usually 20 minutes) for a small group of learners who may not have been his/her own students. This is then recorded on video. After the lesson, the teacher, teaching colleagues, a master teacher and the students together view the video recording and comment on what they see happening, referencing the teacher's learning objectives. Watching the video and getting comments from colleagues and students provide teachers with an often intense "under the microscope" view of their teaching.

Teachers, nowadays, are promoting seminars as these are helpful in boosting students' self-confidence. Besides, they also help all the students (both listeners and the student delivering the seminar) in preparing a difficult topic easily.
A seminar is a group meeting led by an expert that focusses on a specific topic or discipline. Attending a seminar has numerous benefits, including improving communication skills, gaining expert knowledge, networking with others and renewing motivation and confidence.
