Bamboo Bridge Bamboo Bridge Bamboo Bridge Bamboo Bridge Bamboo Bridge
It rains so much where we live.
Sometimes after the rain, there
is knee-high water everywhere.
But that does not stop us from
getting to school. We hold our
books in one hand and bamboo
with the other. We quickly cross
the bamboo and rope bridge to
reach school.
Try these
Ö Ö Ö Ö Ö Collect some bricks. Lay them
on the ground in a line as
shown in the picture. Try
walking on them. Was it easy ?
Ö Ö Ö Ö Ö Make a small bridge by tying
4 or 5 bamboo poles together.
Ask your teacher to help you.
Now walk on your bridge.
How did you feel? Did you fall
down? If you walk like this a
few times, you will start
finding it easy.
Ö Ö Ö Ö Ö Do you think it would be
easier to walk on this
bridge barefoot or with
shoes or slippers ? Why ?

Everyday we have to cross
the river to get to school.
The river is wide and deep.
There is a strong iron rope
across the river. On both
the sides it is tied tightly
with strong trees or rocks.
There is a trolley (an open
box made of wood)
attached with the rope. Four or five of us sit in the trolley. A
pulley helps the trolley to move across the rope. We reach
the other side of the river in a short time.

Observe pictures 1 and 2. In the pictures, children are pulling
the buckets from the well. Can you tell the difference in both the
pictures? Which would be easier – using the pulley or not using
it to lift things?
Ö Ö Ö Ö Ö Look around you – where all do you
see the use of pulleys? List them.
Ö Ö Ö Ö Ö With the help of a pulley, try and
lift various things, as shown in
the picture.

FAQs on NCERT Textbook - Going To School

1. Why do some children walk to school while others use buses or cars?
Ans. Different children use different modes of transport to reach school depending on where they live. Those living near school often walk, while children from far areas use buses, cars, bicycles, or other vehicles. Some children travel by train or boat if they live in remote regions. The choice depends on distance, availability of transport, and family circumstances.
2. What are the different routes students take to get to school?
Ans. Students follow various routes to school based on their location and available transport. Some take direct paths through roads, while others walk through fields or forests. Rural students might travel longer distances on unpaved tracks. Urban students often use planned streets and bus routes. Routes vary by geography, weather, and safety considerations in each area.
3. How does going to school help children learn about their surroundings?
Ans. The journey to school itself teaches children about their environment and community. Students observe plants, animals, buildings, and people during their commute. They learn about different terrains, weather patterns, and seasonal changes firsthand. This daily experience develops their awareness of nature and local geography, enhancing learning beyond textbook knowledge in environmental studies.
4. Why is it important for all children to attend school regularly?
Ans. Regular school attendance ensures children receive consistent education and develop important social skills. Students who attend daily build strong foundations in academics and create lasting friendships. Attending school regularly helps children develop discipline, responsibility, and confidence. It also provides access to resources, healthcare support, and meals that many children need for proper development and growth.
5. What challenges do children face while going to school in different regions?
Ans. Children in various regions face unique obstacles when commuting to school. Rural students may travel long distances on difficult terrain in harsh weather. Urban children deal with traffic congestion and crowded public transport. Some face safety concerns or lack of reliable transport options. Children in hilly, forest, or coastal areas encounter geographical barriers that make reaching school challenging daily.
