Psychrometry
O Psychrometry is the science dealing
with the physical laws of air – water
vapour
mixtures.
O When designing an air conditioning
system, the temperature and moisture
content of the air to be conditioned,
and the same properties of the air
needed to produce the desired air
conditioning effect.
O In other words, we can say that
Psychrometry is the study of MOIST

Dew Point
O The temperature at which moisture starts to
condense out of the air is known as DEW POINT.
O Dew point is also known as saturation temperature.
O Dew point temperature is determined by moving
from a state point horizontally to the left along lines
of constant humidity ratio until the upper, curved,
saturation temperature boundary is reached.

FAQs on PPT: Psychrometric Process - Thermodynamics - Mechanical Engineering

1. What is a psychrometric process?
Ans. A psychrometric process refers to the study and analysis of the properties of air and its moisture content. It involves understanding and evaluating the changes in temperature, humidity, and pressure of air as it undergoes various transformations.
2. How is a psychrometric process represented on a chart?
Ans. A psychrometric process is typically represented on a psychrometric chart, which is a graphical representation of the properties of moist air. The chart provides information about the relationship between temperature, humidity, and other variables such as enthalpy, dew point, and specific volume.
3. What are the applications of psychrometric processes?
Ans. Psychrometric processes have various applications in HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) systems. They are used to determine the cooling load requirements, design air conditioning systems, analyze indoor air quality, and evaluate the performance of humidification and dehumidification processes.
4. How can a psychrometric process be used to analyze air conditioning systems?
Ans. By utilizing psychrometric processes, engineers can analyze air conditioning systems to determine the cooling and dehumidification requirements of a given space. The properties of the inlet and outlet air are compared on a psychrometric chart to assess the efficiency and effectiveness of the system in maintaining desired indoor conditions.
5. What is the significance of the dew point in psychrometric processes?
Ans. The dew point is a critical parameter in psychrometric processes as it indicates the temperature at which moisture begins to condense out of the air. By understanding the dew point, engineers and technicians can prevent condensation issues, control humidity levels, and ensure optimal comfort and performance in various applications like cooling towers, refrigeration systems, and drying processes.
