ioxide from point (a) in the Andrews
isotherm from the following is ___________

Answer Key & Explanation

1. Ans. Correct answer is 1
Explanation
Copper matte is a mixture of copper sulfide and iron sulfide
formed as a result of smelting of copper ore. It contains mainly
copper sulfide (Cu2S) as the major component and iron sulfide
(FeS) as a minor component.
The compounds A. CuCO3, C. Cu2O, and D. FeO are not present in
copper matte, but can be formed as a result of further processing
or refining of the matte.
Therefore, among the given compounds, only "B. Cu2S" is present
in copper matte.

2. Ans. Correct answer is 2
Explanation

A. Carbon dioxide remains as a gas upto point (b)
B. Liquid carbon dioxide appears at point (c)
JEE Main 2023 (Online) 24th January Evening Shift
C. Liquid and gaseous carbon dioxide coexist between points (b)
and (c)
D. As the volume decreases from (b) and (c), the amount of liquid
decreases

FAQs on General Principles and Processes of Isolation of Meta: JEE Mains Previous Year Questions (2021-2024) - Chemistry for JEE Main & Advanced

1. What are the general principles of isolation of metals?
Ans. The general principles of isolation of metals include mining, concentration of ore, extraction of metal, and refining of metal.
2. What is the process of roasting in metallurgy?
Ans. Roasting is a process in metallurgy where the ore is heated in the presence of excess air to convert the ore into its oxide.
3. How is leaching used in the extraction of metals?
Ans. Leaching is a process used in the extraction of metals where a suitable solvent is used to extract the metal from the ore.
4. What is the role of flux in the extraction of metals?
Ans. Flux is used in the extraction of metals to remove impurities by forming a fusible slag and to lower the melting point of the metal oxide.
5. How is electrolytic refining used in the purification of metals?
Ans. Electrolytic refining is a process used to purify metals where an electrolytic cell is used to dissolve impure metal at the anode and deposit pure metal at the cathode.
