Chemical Reaction
CaCO£ í CaO + CO¢
Calcium Carbonate
Quick Lime
Produced from relatively pure
limestone. Has very high
affinity for water.
Slaking Process
CaO + H¢O ³ Ca(OH)¢
(Hydrated/slaked lime). An
exothermic reaction.
Fresh Usage
Should be used fresh as it reacts with CO¢ to form calcium
carbonate precipitate.

Calcium Lime
Composition
Obtained from pure limestone (90-
95% purity). Clay content is
approximately 5-10%.
Properties
Slakes vigorously. Volume increases
2-25 times. Sets slowly with high
plasticity.
Applications
Pure white color. Used for finishing
works like plastering and
whitewashing.
