MODULE 2 | Mental Health & Mindfulness for Students
Guided Practice Activities
Understanding Emotions and Feelings
Complete the activities below to apply and deepen your learning from this module.
Activity 1: Emotion Wheel Exploration
Type: Visual Activity · Estimated Time: 20 minutes
What to do:
1. Draw or print a large circle divided into 8 sections — one for each core emotion: Joy, Sadness,
Anger, Fear, Disgust, Surprise, Trust, Anticipation.
2. In each section, write 3 more specific words that fall under that emotion (e.g., under Joy:
excited, proud, grateful).
3. Think about the past 7 days. Place a star next to every emotion you experienced.
4. Circle the emotion you felt most strongly this week.
5. Write 2 –3 sentences about what triggered that emotion and how your body felt during it.
6. Discuss with a partner: Was it easy or hard to name your emotions? Why?
Reflection Questions:
• What patterns did you notice in your emotions this week?
• How does naming an emotion help you manage it?
? Teacher Tip: Research shows that simply naming an emotion — 'name it to tame it' —
can reduce its intensity.

Activity 2: Body Scan: Where Do You Feel Emotions?
Type: Mindfulness Activity · Estimated Time: 15 minutes
What to do:
7. Sit comfortably in your chair with both feet flat on the floor.
8. Close your eyes or soften your gaze downward.
9. Take 3 slow, deep breaths in through your nose and out through your mouth.
10. Think about a time you felt nervous or anxious. Notice: Where in your body do you feel it? (e.g.,
chest tightness, stomach knots, shoulders).
11. Now think of a time you felt really happy. Notice: What does your body feel now?
12. On the body outline worksheet (or sketch your own), shade or label where each emotion 'lives'
in your body.
13. Open your eyes and journal for 3 minutes about what you noticed.

Reflection Questions:
• Were there any emotions that surprised you with where they appeared in your body?
• How can this awareness help you respond to emotions instead of reacting to them?
? Teacher Tip: Everyone experiences emotions differently in their body — there is no
wrong answer here.
