MODULE 7 | Mental Health & Mindfulness for Students
Guided Practice Activities
Dealing with Peer Pressure and Social Media
Complete the activities below to apply and deepen your learning from this module.
Activity 1: Saying No — Practising Refusal Skills
Type: Role Play Activity · Estimated Time: 20 minutes
What to do:
1. In groups of 3, read each scenario card. One person plays the 'peer pressurer', one plays the
'person being pressured', and one is the observer.
2. Scenario examples: Being pressured to skip class. Being pressured to send a risky photo
online. Being pressured to exclude someone from the group. Being pressured to try a
substance.
3. Practice 3 refusal strategies: (1) Simply say 'No thanks' and walk away. (2) Offer an alternative:
'I don't want to do that, but let's do this instead.' (3) Use humour to deflect without confrontation.
4. The observer gives feedback: Did the refusal seem confident? What body language was used?
5. Rotate roles so everyone practices refusing.
6. Write down your own 3-sentence 'refusal script' you could actually use.
Reflection Questions:
• Which refusal strategy felt most natural to you?
• Why is it important to have a plan before you face peer pressure?
? Teacher Tip: Rehearsing refusal skills in a safe setting means your brain is more likely
to use them under real pressure.

Activity 2: Social Media Audit
Type: Reflective Activity · Estimated Time: 15 minutes
What to do:
7. Think about the social media accounts and content you follow or engage with regularly.
8. Create a table with 3 columns: ACCOUNT/CONTENT TYPE | HOW IT MAKES ME FEEL |
KEEP OR UNFOLLOW?
9. Fill in at least 10 accounts or content types you regularly see.
10. In column 2, write one emotion word for how this content typically makes you feel (e.g., inspired,
jealous, informed, anxious).
11. In column 3, decide honestly whether this content adds to your wellbeing or takes away from it.
12. Identify any patterns: Are there themes in what makes you feel better or worse?
