GATE Virtual Calculator Complete Tutorial
From this year GATE committee has prohibited the use of conventional calculator and
introduce virtual calculator which will be available during gate exam. While checking out
this virtual calculator i found its functioning a bit complex and unusual. Several function
such as combination, permutation, matrix etc are missing in this calculator.
Mark my word guys it is near to impossible to operate this calculator correctly on the
first attempt. So it is mandatory for all of you guys appearing for GATE exam to practice
this calculator before exam.

Structure of the Tutorial: First we will deal with basic arithmetic operation such
as plus, minus, division, multiplication, square root, reciprocal then we will move to
trigonometric, logarithm, exponential and factorial.
Basic Arithmetic Operation:
There is a special way of writing number with negative sign. Suppose we want to
write -25
1. Write number 25
2. Click on [ +/- ] button.

Plus, Minus, Multiplication and Division :
Now let solve some example to understand some basic feature
First Example:
1. Write number 25
2. Click on [+/-] button.
3. Click on [ * ] button –> open bracket [ ( ] –> Type 50 –> click on [ * ] — > Type
5 –> close bracket [ ) ] –> Click on [ / ] –> Type 4 –> Click on [ = ].
Second Example:
  Answer is 90
Button Sequence:
10 [ + ] [ ( ] 50 [ – ] 10 [ * ] [ ( ] 2.6 [ – ] 0.6 [ ) ] [ / ] [ ( ] 1.4
 [ – ] 0.4 [ ) ] [ = ]
Power:
First we will discuss about ( power of 10 ) button then we will move toward power of
other number.
Power of 10: Two button has given for Power of 10 function first is [ Exp ] and second
is [ 10
x
]. Let solve an example to see what is the different between them and how does
they work.

we want to calculate 144
2
so type 144 then click on [ x

1953125.
Other: Now we want to calculate 31
4
. Procedure will be same as above but now we
have to mention power term. So first type 31 then click on [ x
y

FAQs on Salient Features of GATE 2027 Virtual Calculator

1. What are the main features of the GATE 2027 virtual calculator that I need to know?
Ans. The GATE 2027 virtual calculator offers a user-friendly interface with basic arithmetic operations, trigonometric functions, logarithmic calculations, and memory storage capabilities. It supports both scientific and standard modes, allowing candidates to switch based on their problem-solving needs. The calculator displays up to 16 digits and includes features for percentage calculations and statistical functions, designed specifically for exam efficiency.
2. How do I use the virtual calculator's memory functions during the GATE 2027 exam?
Ans. Memory functions in the GATE 2027 virtual calculator include M+ (memory add), M- (memory subtract), MR (memory recall), and MC (memory clear) buttons. These features allow candidates to store intermediate results without re-entering them manually, significantly reducing calculation time during numerical problem-solving. Practising memory function shortcuts during mock tests helps build speed and accuracy in the actual examination.
3. Can I access trigonometric and logarithmic functions on the GATE virtual calculator for CSE problems?
Ans. Yes, the GATE 2027 virtual calculator includes dedicated trigonometric functions (sin, cos, tan) and logarithmic operations (log, ln). These functions are essential for solving physics, mathematics, and certain engineering problems within the Computer Science Engineering exam. The calculator switches to scientific mode automatically when these advanced operations are selected, making complex calculations manageable during the test.
4. What's the difference between standard and scientific modes in the GATE 2027 virtual calculator?
Ans. Standard mode displays basic operations like addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, suitable for straightforward arithmetic. Scientific mode unlocks advanced features including trigonometric ratios, exponential functions, factorial calculations, and degree-to-radian conversions. CSE candidates benefit from switching between modes depending on whether they're solving data structure problems (standard) or algorithm complexity calculations (scientific).
5. How can I practise with the GATE 2027 virtual calculator before my actual exam?
Ans. Students should use mock test series that integrate the official GATE 2027 virtual calculator interface, allowing hands-on experience with its layout and functions. Familiarising yourself through practice questions and simulated exams helps build confidence and operational speed. Refer to detailed notes, flashcards, and MCQ tests on EduRev to strengthen both calculator skills and problem-solving strategies simultaneously.
