FAQs on 6. Electric Current - Theory Sheet, Class 12 Physics

1. What is electric current?
Ans. Electric current is the flow of electric charge in a medium, such as a wire. It is the rate at which charges pass through a cross-sectional area of the conductor. Electric current is measured in amperes (A).
2. How is electric current related to voltage?
Ans. Electric current is directly proportional to the voltage applied across a conductor. According to Ohm's Law, the current (I) flowing through a conductor is equal to the voltage (V) applied across it divided by the resistance (R) of the conductor, i.e., I = V/R.
3. What are the different types of electric current?
Ans. There are two types of electric current: direct current (DC) and alternating current (AC). In DC, the flow of electric charges is in one direction, while in AC, the flow of electric charges periodically changes direction.
4. How does electric current flow in a circuit?
Ans. Electric current flows in a circuit due to the movement of free electrons. When a voltage is applied across a conductor, the electric field created causes the free electrons to move in the opposite direction. This movement of electrons constitutes the flow of electric current.
5. What are the factors that affect the flow of electric current?
Ans. Several factors affect the flow of electric current, including the voltage applied, the resistance of the conductor, and the temperature of the conductor. Higher voltage, lower resistance, and lower temperature result in a higher flow of electric current.
