Given data:
Length of copper rod (LCu) = 88 cm
Linear expansion coefficient of copper (αCu) = 1.7 × 10-5 K-1
Linear expansion coefficient of aluminium (αAl) = 2.2 × 10-5 K-1

Calculation:

Change in length of copper rod:
ΔLCu = LCu × αCu × ΔT
ΔLCu = 88 × 1.7 × 10-5 × ΔT

Change in length of aluminium rod:
ΔLAl = LAl × αAl × ΔT
As per the given condition, the increase in length of the two rods is independent of the increase in temperature. Therefore, ΔLCu = ΔLAl
88 × 1.7 × 10-5 × ΔT = LAl × 2.2 × 10-5 × ΔT
88 × 1.7 = LAl × 2.2
LAl = (88 × 1.7) / 2.2
