Permissible tensile stress (σ) = 200 kgf/cm2

To find: Thickness of metal required for making the pipe

Formula used:
Circumference of pipe (C) = πD
Stress = Pressure × Diameter / (2 × Thickness)
Thickness = Diameter × Pressure / (2 × Stress)

Calculation:
Circumference of pipe (C) = πD
= π × 1 m
= 3.14 m

Stress = Pressure × Diameter / (2 × Thickness)
Thickness = Diameter × Pressure / (2 × Stress)
= 1 m × 10 kgf/cm2 / (2 × 200 kgf/cm2)
= 0.025 m
= 25 mm
