Community Answer
Water flows through a pipe of internal diameter 20 cm at the speed of ...
Solution:

Given:

Internal diameter of the pipe = 20 cm

Speed of water in pipe = 1 m/s

Speed of water at nozzle = 4 m/s

Let the diameter of the nozzle be 'd'.

Area of pipe = πr^2

where r = internal radius of the pipe

r = 20/2 = 10 cm = 0.1 m

Area of pipe = π(0.1)^2 = 0.01π m^2

Velocity of water in pipe = 1 m/s

Volume of water flowing per second = Area of pipe × Velocity of water

= 0.01π × 1 = 0.01π m^3/s

Velocity of water at nozzle = 4 m/s

Volume of water flowing per second = Area of nozzle × Velocity of water

Area of nozzle = Volume of water flowing per second / Velocity of water

= 0.01π / 4 = 0.0025π m^2

Let the radius of the nozzle be 'r'.

Then, area of nozzle = πr^2

πr^2 = 0.0025π

r^2 = 0.0025

r = √0.0025 = 0.05 m

Diameter of the nozzle = 2r = 2 × 0.05 = 0.1 m = 10 cm

Hence, the diameter of the nozzle should be 10 cm.
