The environment gets affected drastically, when the various sources of energy are exploited. The sources we use for the production of energy, depends on various factors like, ease of extracting energy from that source, the efficiency of extracting energy from the source, the efficiency of the technology available and the environmental damage that will be caused by using the source. Even though we have clean fuels like CNG (Compressed Natural Gas), we could distinguish by saying that none is cleaner than the other, meaning that no fuel is eco friendly. For example, burning of fossil fuels cause air pollution. In some cases, the actual operation of a device like the solar cell may be pollution-free, but on the other hand, the assembly of the device would have caused some environmental damage. There are lots of research going on all over the world to produce long lasting devices that will cause less damage throughout our life.

The Amazon rain forest ecosystem could get completely destroyed. Tens of millions of people could be deprived of even the most basic food, millions could have their homesflooded and many more will face watershortages. Governments ofseverla industrialised countries have signe the Kyoto Protocol, an agreement to reduce their emissions of greehouse gases in the coming years. Unfortunately the U. S., the biggest emitter, responsible for nearly a quarter of the world's carbon dioxide emissions (though it has only four percent of the world's population) has refused to raify the Kyoto Protocol! Global fossil fuel reserves are diminishing but we need to do something soon. Governments need to stop giving easy loans and benefits to fossil fuel industies and start funding technologies that don't cause global warming. Safer and cleanersources of energy like windmills, energy from windmills, energy from biomass. wave energy fromseashores and of course solar energy are becoming increasingly popular. It is up to governmentsto acknowledge that these are viable profitable sources of energy, and increase investments in clean energy A.
