For performing consolidation the test, a soil sample of 60 mm diameter is taken as per ISI standards. Sample of 50, 70 and 100 mm dia may also be used in special cases. The sample thickness should not be less than 10 times the maximum dia of the soil grains, and the dia to thickness ratio of the sample should be a minimum of 3.
