Reservations and Relaxations for Reserved Category Candidates in CTET Exam


The Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) is conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to determine the eligibility of candidates for appointment as teachers in classes I to VIII. In order to promote equal opportunities and inclusivity, special reservations and relaxations are provided for reserved category candidates in the CTET exam.


Under the reservation policy, a certain percentage of seats are reserved for candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBC), and Economically Weaker Sections (EWS). The reservation percentages for each category are as follows:

- SC: 15% of the total seats
- ST: 7.5% of the total seats
- OBC: 27% of the total seats
- EWS: 10% of the total seats


Reserved category candidates are provided with certain relaxations in terms of age limit, educational qualifications, and qualifying marks in the CTET exam. These relaxations aim to provide equal opportunities to candidates from these categories. The relaxations are as follows:

1. Age Relaxation: Reserved category candidates are given age relaxation as per the government norms. The age relaxation is usually applicable for a specified number of years beyond the upper age limit for general category candidates.

2. Educational Qualifications: Reserved category candidates are required to possess the same educational qualifications as general category candidates. There are no specific relaxations in terms of educational qualifications for reserved category candidates.

3. Qualifying Marks Relaxation: Reserved category candidates are provided with relaxation in the qualifying marks required to pass the CTET exam. The qualifying marks for reserved category candidates are generally lower than those for general category candidates. This ensures that reserved category candidates have a fair chance of qualifying the exam.
