Calculation of Selling Price
The shopkeeper sold two fans for ₹1140 each.
- Selling Price (SP) of Fan 1 = ₹1140
- Selling Price (SP) of Fan 2 = ₹1140
Total Selling Price
- Total SP = SP of Fan 1 + SP of Fan 2
Total SP = ₹1140 + ₹1140 = ₹2280
Calculation of Cost Price
1. Fan 1:
- Loss = 10%
- Let Cost Price (CP) of Fan 1 = x
- Loss = 10% of CP = (10/100) * x
- Selling Price = CP - Loss
- Therefore, 1140 = x - (10/100)x
- 1140 = (90/100)x
- x = (1140 * 100) / 90 = ₹1266.67
2. Fan 2:
- Loss = 5%
- Let Cost Price (CP) of Fan 2 = y
- Loss = 5% of CP = (5/100) * y
- Selling Price = CP - Loss
- Therefore, 1140 = y - (5/100)y
- 1140 = (95/100)y
- y = (1140 * 100) / 95 = ₹1200
Total Cost Price
- Total CP = CP of Fan 1 + CP of Fan 2
Total CP = ₹1266.67 + ₹1200 = ₹2466.67
Calculation of Overall Gain or Loss
- Loss = Total CP - Total SP
Loss = ₹2466.67 - ₹2280 = ₹186.67
Loss Percentage
- Loss Percentage = (Loss / Total CP) * 100
Loss Percentage = (186.67 / 2466.67) * 100 ≈ 7.57%
Conclusion
The shopkeeper incurs an overall loss of approximately 7.57% in this transaction.
