If the bond length of CO bond in carbon monoxide is 1.128 Å. Then what is the value of CO bond length in Fe(CO)5:
  • a)
    1.15 Å
  • b)
    1.128 Å
  • c)

The answer here is (A) 1.15 A

because due to synergic bond formation between metal and CO, the bond order of CO decreases.

I think ,back bonding is also possible due to this fe-CO bond strong and CO bond order is decrease and then bond length is increase so ....c is correct
