In the given figure, AB = 6cm. Find the area of the triangle ADC.

- CD = 4cm
- Angle BAD = 30
^{o}and Angle ADC = 120^{o}

- a)Statement (1) ALONE is sufficient, but statement (2) alone is not sufficient to answer the question asked.
- b)Statement (2) ALONE is sufficient, but statement (1) alone is not sufficient to answer the question asked.
- c)BOTH statements (1) and (2) TOGETHER are sufficient to answer the question asked, but NEITHER statement ALONE is sufficient to answer the question asked.
- d)EACH statement ALONE is sufficient to answer the question asked.
- e)Statements (1) and (2) TOGETHER are NOT sufficient to answer the question asked, and additional data specific to the problem are needed.

Let's analyse Statement 1 -

given : CD = 4cm.

However, This doesn't help us determine the area of the ∆ ADC, which is given by 1/2 * base * height.

= 1/2 * CD * height.

Height cannot be determined here since the values of angles are unknown.

Statement 2 -

1) Angle (ADC) = 120

therefore,

Angle(ADB) = 60

,and

->Angle (BAD)= 30

hence,

->Angle (ABD) = 90

this implies that AB is the altitude for ∆ADC.

An altitude by defn is the perpendicular distance between the base and the opposite vertex.

Now, AB = 6cm

but, the base length is unknown.

Hence, Statement 2 is also insufficient.

1 & 2 together -

Now, base = 4cm

height = 6cm

Hence, area = 0.5 *6*4.

AREA = 12 SQCM.

Therefore, you guessed it, the Correct Answer is (C).
