About District

Anantapuramu's Origin

• Ananthapuramu derived its name from 'Anaatasagaram,' a vast tank signifying "Endless Ocean."
• The villages of Anaantasagaram and Bukkarayasamudram were established by Anantaras Chilkkavodeya, the minister of Bukka-I, a ruler of Vijayanagar.
• There are differing opinions on whether Anaantasagaram was named after Bukka's queen or after Anantarasa Chikkavodeya himself.

Establishment of Anantapur District

• Anantapur District was established in 1882 after separating from Bellary district.
• Subsequently, it was enlarged by incorporating Revenue Mandals from Cuddapah District in 1910 and from Bellary District in 1956.

Geographical Location

• The district lies between specific longitudes and latitudes, bordered by Kurnool District to the north, Chittor District to the southeast, YSR District to the east, and Karnataka state to the west and southwest.

This site is home to a remarkable Banyan Tree, known as "Thimmamma Marrimanu," which holds a special place in the Guinness World Records for having an area of 8 acres and 15 cents, with an astonishing 5559 branches. Legend has it that the tree originated from the spot where Thimmamma, in 1434 A.D, is believed to have performed 'Sati.'

Veerapuramu

• Veerapuramu is located near Hindupur, well-connected by road from Ananthapuramu, Bangalore City, and Devanhalli International Airport.

• Every year, a considerable number of painted storks migrate to Veerapuramu for breeding, showcasing a remarkable natural phenomenon.

Kumbakarna Theme Park

• Kumbakarna garden near Penukonda covers an area of 5 acres and features a colossal statue of the sleeping Kumbhakarna, which is 142 feet long and 32 feet tall. Visitors can walk into the belly of the statue, which is cavernous in structure.
• The statue depicts several asuras attempting to awaken the sleeping giant, illustrating the well-known tale of this formidable brother of Ravana from the epic Ramayana.

Shilparamam

• The Rural Museum: Visitors are drawn to the rural museum within Shilparamam, surrounded by lush greenery, resembling a miniature Indian village. The museum includes fifteen life-sized huts made of thatch and baked clay, showcasing the typical lifestyles of tribal and rural communities, along with the activities of resident artisans.

• Aluru Kona is situated about 5 kilometers away from Tadipatri Town.

• In the valley, there is a small waterfall where water flows continuously, adding to the natural charm of the area.

Yadiki Caves

• Yadiki Caves are located midway between Gooty and Tadipatri.
• These caves are found in the scenic village of Konapulappadu, which is approximately 18 kilometers from Yadiki.
• The caves offer a breathtaking view of hillocks, gorges, springs, paddy fields, lakes, and winding roads, captivating every visitor.
• Geemanugavi cave, extending 5 kilometers in length, allows exploration up to 2 kilometers inside. The stalactite and stalagmite formations within resemble chandeliers, bridges, globes, and snakes, some of which sparkle like diamonds.
