guys now a lot of you guys requested
that we do lettering for a video so for
this week that's our topic now in
architecture schools we're used to using
this the first thing guidelines of
course this is the proper way to start
an architectural lettering but for this
video and for this channel especially
we're more into a casual way of doing
sketching after all you can't really
bring your drafting table out so we can
try and eyeball it
it is a rough way of doing things but
this is meant for people who are just
out there traveling with nothing but pen
and paper now apart from the guidelines
one of the things that we need to be
aware when we're doing architectural
lettering is to know the characteristics
of architectural lettering like for
instance architectural lettering is as
wide as it is high so you can just
imagine making boxes like this and
seeing that the letters are just as wide
as it is high
another thing is upward inflection in
architectural lettering the horizontal
lines tilt ever so slightly upwards by
that it gives character and a certain
casual feel to the letters
you can also emphasize the beginning of
the strokes and overlay the lines a
little bit now the thing that makes
architectural lettering the most special
is character and that really depends on
the individual itself for some people
they can be quite spontaneous with their
lettering so they create something that
will look quite casual like this or they
could be quite rigid
either way it does depend on the
individual itself and they both have
merits they're both very very nice and I
would say that the most important tip
would be if you commit yourself to
practicing architectural lettering
you'll be able to come up with your own
style a good sentence to practice will
be the quick brown fox jumps over the
lazy dog because it contains every
letter of the alphabet
you
so to conclude guys try and keep these
principles in mind when you're
practicing architectural lettering one
guidelines - the width of the letter 3
the upward inflection and also the
emphasizing and overlapping of strokes
and 5th character and how do you achieve
character by 6 practice so thank you so
