NCERT Solved Questions

Q. Calculate the number of molecules of sulphur (S8) present in 16 g of solid sulphur.   [NCERT]

Ans. Mass of 1 mole of S8 = 8 × 32 = 256 g

256 of S8 contains = 6.022 × 1023 molcules

16 g of S8 contains = = 3.76 × 1022 molecules.

Q. Calculate the number of aluminium ions present in 0.051 g of aluminium oxide.   [NCERT]

(Hint. : The mass of an ion is the same as that of an atom of the same element. Atomic mass of Al = 27 u)

Ans. Molar mass of aluminium oxide, Al2O3 = 2 × 27 3 × 16 = 102 g

102 of Al2O3 contains = 2 × 6.022 × 1023 Al3  ions

0.051 g of Al2O3 contains = × 0.051 = 6.022 × 1020 Al3  ions.
