In Himachal Pradesh, various literary and cultural awards have been established over the years. The Pahadi Poetry Award was first presented to Dr. Viram Singh in 1983. The Chandradhar Sharma 'Guleri' Award, recognizing excellence in Hindi literature, was first given to Mr. Keshav in 1986. That same year, the Y.S. Parmar Award was awarded to Mian Goverdhan Singh for outstanding Himachali cultural literature. Jaidev Kiran received the inaugural Pahari Gandhi Baba Kanshi Ram Award in 1989 for distinguished hill literature. Bhawani Dutt Sharma was honored with the first Pahari Shikhar Award in 1994 for his contributions to hill station art and literature. 

In 1958, Prakash Chand, the Principal of State Senior School in Shimla, became the first recipient of the Himachal Pradesh National Teachers Award. The Parashurama Award, given for exceptional sports achievements, was first awarded to athlete Suman Rawat from Sundernagar in 1987. Key dates in Himachal Pradesh's literary and cultural calendar include Chandradhar Sharma 'Guleri' Day on July 7, Pahadi Day on November 1, Yashpal Jayanti on December 3, Lalchandra Prayer Jayanti on April 3, Pahari Gandhi Baba Kanshi Ram Jayanti on July 11, and Dr. Y.S. Parmar Jayanti on August 4. 

The Himachal Pradesh Art, Culture, and Language Academy, established in 1968, was inaugurated on October 2, 1972. Additionally, the Yashpal Sahitya Pratisthan, located in Nadun and founded in 1995, promotes literary activities. Mahatma Gandhi also authored a book on the Dhami state, titled "Dhami Paath."
