  • Start working: Some students may choose to enter the workforce after completing Class 10, either by starting a job or starting their own business. This can be a good option for students who are ready to begin earning an income or who want to gain practical experience in a specific field.
  • Take a gap year: Some students may choose to take a gap year after completing Class 10 in order to travel, volunteer, or pursue other interests before beginning their higher education or career.

Competitive Exams for Class 10 Students

Competitive exams are an important part of the education system and are not just limited to Class 12 students. These exams evaluate a student's intelligence and mental aptitude and offer scholarships to those who perform well. It is important for both students and their parents to be aware of these exams, as this is the first step in preparing for them.

  1. NTSE: The National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) is a competitive exam designed to identify students who demonstrate exceptional academic talent and intellectual ability. It tests students on the NCERT syllabus which covers Science, Math, Social Science and Mental Ability. Those who pass the two-part exam (Mental Ability Test and Scholastic Ability Test) receive a scholarship for the entire academic year.
  2. SAT: The SAT is a college admission exam required for students studying abroad, which tests writing, critical reading, and mathematics skills. It is administered by the College Board in the US and is increasingly accepted by Indian universities as an alternative to their own entrance exams.
  3. INMO: The Homi Bhabha Centre of Science Education conducts the Indian National Mathematical Olympiad (INMO) annually in January, requiring a strong mathematical foundation for participation. It is the third of six mathematics exams and success in the first two levels allows progression to the next stage. Those who excel in INMO can skip the entrance test at the Indian Statistical Institute and proceed to the interview process.
  4. KVPY: The KVPY exam is designed to test students' understanding of the fundamentals of science and is administered by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. It is one of the most crucial examinations for those looking to further their studies in science.
