Defining the roadmap (Day 10)
With all the discussions over last few days, Ron has gained more perspective in life. His sense of control on things is increasing. He starts feeling more alive as he felt years ago with his wish to become better and contribute back to society, surfacing again.
His time in the office is more productive by the day and he doesn’t dislike it as he did two weeks ago. Another day ends and Ron meets Ron+ for their last discussion together.
“Ron, this is our last day together. We have gone through all the essential elements that you require in your transformation and have already started work on bringing them into your daily life in the least disruptive way. Let’s now create an overall roadmap to monitor your progress. How about we connect once a month, say start of the month, for an hour to discuss your progress last month and your plans for the current month? We can continue this for twelve months, after which you will be more self-sufficient to run independently with these principles and exercises.”

“Sure, sounds perfect! I hope I can meet your expectations!”
“Don’t meet my expectations, Ron! Raise your expectations, meet them and continue to raise them each time you get there. As I have emphasized already, human beings have a tendency to rise to expectations. When you treat people as average, they will produce average results. When you start to treat the same people as stars, their results improve dramatically. We perform most often to match the expectations of our peer group. Make necessary changes to your peer group to spend more time with individuals that inspire and encourage you. From the experiences of successful people, while they had hundreds of people around telling them they won’t make it, they were also able to find a few who told them they will. These are the ones you need to find for yourself. We all need people around to believe in us more than we believe in ourselves. As discussed during our discussion on self-esteem, it is difficult to find people with an abundance mentality, or people who have a belief system where ‘life is not a zero-sum game’ and ‘the pie continues to grow for everyone as more people become successful’. But remember, it is difficult, not impossible.”

“Ron+, by now, I appreciate fully that anything worth having in life does not come easy. These are the same people we identified to be in Category A in your exercises within ‘Mind Control’. Once you find them, find a way to be associated with them on a regular basis.”
With these words, Ron+ leaves Ron with the two most important things that create positive change:
