  • Chemosynthetic bacteria possess special enzymes, such as sulfide oxidase, that enable them to oxidize hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and release energy in the process.
  • The energy released from the oxidation of hydrogen sulfide is used to fix carbon dioxide (CO2) into organic molecules.
