Introduction

  • From the inception of the state, Chhattisgarh has been actively working towards enhancing trade, both in terms of quantity and quality.
  • The state produces nearly 15 million tons of steel, which constitutes 30 percent of the country’s total production capacity. The annual production of cement in Chhattisgarh has reached 18 million tons, accounting for 15 percent of the country’s total production capacity.
  • Similarly, the annual aluminum production capacity of Chhattisgarh has also reached 350,000 tons, which is 30 percent of the country’s total production capacity.

Chhattisgarh Trade Centre

  • The Chhattisgarh State Industrial Development Corporation (CSIDC) is planning the development of the ‘Chhattisgarh Trade Centre’ on a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model in Naya Raipur.
  • The CSIDC has already developed a significant portion of the Trade Centre and is planning to complete the remaining work, as well as the maintenance and operation of the Chhattisgarh Trade Centre, through a private partner.
  • The basic infrastructure, such as internal roads, drainage, entrance plaza, cultural program ground and stage, boundary wall, warehouse, and parking space, has already been completed by the CSIDC using its own resources.
  • The construction of a convention center with a capacity of 750 seats and a Shilpgram (artisan village) is currently underway and will be completed by the CSIDC.
  • The development of air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned pavilions, a food court, warehouse, administrative office, shopping complex, and other remaining components is being planned in collaboration with a private partner.
  • The CSIDC aims to develop this facility as a one-stop solution in the state for MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) events, trade fairs, and government programs. The trade center will also assist the state in boosting its exports.
  • The goal is to provide upgraded facilities to users, improve management, and promote industries, particularly in terms of exports.

State Industrial Policies

The State Government has released four major industrial policies for the non-core sector, including:

  • Agriculture and Food Processing Industrial Policy 2012
  • Automotive Industrial Policy 2012
  • Policy for Investment in Information Technology/IT-based Services 2012
  • Solar Energy Policy 2012-2017

A total of 449 industrialists and 149 representatives from various companies participated in the 2012 Global Investors Meet, with a total of 285 corporate houses from Chhattisgarh in attendance.
The State Government signed 257 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) during the Global Investors Meet.

  • The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), in collaboration with the Government of Chhattisgarh, organized the "Chhattisgarh Investor Summit" on 14 February 2016 at 14:00 hrs in Mumbai (MMRDA Grounds, BKC) as part of the “Make in India Week” organized by the Government of India.
  • The objective of the Chhattisgarh Investors Summit was to showcase the various investment opportunities and business reforms implemented by the state in recent years to the investor community.
  • The Chhattisgarh Investor Summit was followed by one-on-one business meetings between the Chief Minister and senior-level delegation with Ambassadors and Consulate Generals from different countries such as the Czech Republic, Japan, etc. They also met with CEOs, MDs, and top management personnel from leading industries like Snapdeal, Reliance, Hiranandani, Aditya Birla Group, LANCO Solar, ITC, etc., to invite investments in the state.
  • The World of Industry (WIN) India event, organized by Hannover Milano Fairs India and FICCI, is co-hosted by the Department of Heavy Industry, Government of India. The 9th edition of the event took place on 9-11 December 2015 at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.
