Punjab has become the first state in India to implement the 'Right To Walk' by making it mandatory for all road-owning agencies, including the NHAI, to provide footpaths and cycle tracks in all future road expansions and new constructions. This decision comes in response to the increasing number of deaths among pedestrians and cyclists. Punjab has taken the lead among the states and union territories in implementing this initiative. The state government issued these directions following two court orders after Public Interest Litigations (PILs) were filed at the Punjab and Haryana High Court and the Supreme Court.

Samaresh Majumdar, a renowned Bengali author known for his portrayal of the tumultuous Naxalite period of the 1970s, passed away at a private hospital in Kolkata at the age of 79. Majumdar, suffering from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), had been undergoing treatment at the hospital for over a month. He gained fame with his 'Animesh' series and published his first novel, 'Dour' (Run), in 1967. One of his works, 'Arjun-Kalimpong E Sitaharan,' was adapted into a film in 2013. Majumdar received numerous accolades, including the Sahitya Akademi Award for 'Kalbela' in 1984. He was also honored with the Anand Award and Bankim Award, and in 2018, the West Bengal government awarded him the 'Banga Bibhushan' award.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) imposed a monetary penalty of Rs. 1.73 crore on the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Ltd (HSBC) for contravention of Credit Information Companies Rules, 2006. The bank was issued a notice to explain why the penalty should not be imposed for the mentioned contravention. After considering the bank's reply and oral submissions during the personal hearing, the RBI concluded that the charge of contravention was substantiated and warranted the imposition of a monetary penalty.
