Indo – UK Joint Military Exercise "AJEYA WARRIOR-23" Conducted at Salisbury Plains

The 7th edition of the joint military exercise "AJEYA WARRIOR-23" between India and the United Kingdom is currently underway at Salisbury Plains, United Kingdom from 27 April to 11 May 2023. This biennial training event aims to build positive military relations and promote the ability to operate together while undertaking company-level sub-conventional operations in urban and semi-urban environments under the UN mandate.
Soldiers from the 2 Royal Gorkha Rifles from the United Kingdom and the BIHAR Regiment of the Indian Army are participating in the exercise. The Indian Army contingent arrived at Brize Norton on 26 April 2023, equipped with indigenous weapons and equipment.
The exercise includes a Command Post Exercise (CPX) at the Battalion level and a Company level Field Training Exercise (FTX). Participants will engage in various missions to test their operational acumen, refine their tactical drills, and learn from each other's operational experience.

CCEA Approves ₹1,570 Crore for 157 New Nursing Colleges

To strengthen the nursing workforce in the country, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved the establishment of 157 new nursing colleges in co-location with existing medical colleges established since 2014. The government will invest ₹1,570 crore in this initiative.
The establishment of these nursing colleges aims to ensure quality, affordable, and equitable nursing education, particularly in underserved districts and states/union territories. It addresses the geographical and rural-urban imbalances in the healthcare sector, which have led to a skewed availability of nursing professionals and impacted healthcare services in underserved areas.
This initiative is in line with the national mandate for Universal Health Care (UHC) and the attainment of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Reforms in the regulatory structure for nursing education are also being considered to meet emerging requirements in the sector.

J&K LG Manoj Sinha Inaugurates 576 Residential Accommodations for PM Package Employees

Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, inaugurated 576 newly constructed residential accommodations for PM Package Employees in Baramulla, Bandipora, Ganderbal, and Shopian. The inauguration reflects the government's commitment to creating adequate facilities for the prosperity of employees.
The government is sensitive to the issues faced by Kashmiri migrant families and is working with the right intent to complete the construction of residential accommodations on a priority basis. As part of these efforts, an additional two thousand flats will be completed by December this year.

Malayalam Actor Mamukkoya Passes Away at 76

Popular Malayalam actor Mamukkoya passed away at the age of 76 on Wednesday, April 26. Mamukkoya, known for his impeccable comedy timing and use of the Mappila dialect, made his acting debut in the theatre in 1979. He appeared in over 450 Malayalam films throughout his four-decade-long career. Mamukkoya won two Kerala State Film Awards for his performances in "Perumazhakkalam" and "Innathe Chintha Vishayam."

International Girls in ICT Day - Digital Skills for Life

International Girls in ICT Day is celebrated annually on the fourth Thursday of April to encourage and empower girls and young women to explore and pursue careers in the field of Information and Communication Technology (ICT). This year, it is observed on April 27 with the theme "Digital Skills for Life."
Despite the significant role of ICT in our lives, a relatively small percentage of women globally opt for higher education in ICT-related fields. The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) declared International Girls in ICT Day on April 8, 2011, to encourage women to pursue careers in ICT. The day has been celebrated globally since its inception, with numerous events held in various countries.

Freedom Day in South Africa

Freedom Day is an annual celebration held on April 27 in South Africa. The day commemorates the efforts and sacrifices made to break away from the chains of unjust segregation and apartheid. It symbolizes the emancipation of South Africans and the restoration of their essential human rights in 1994.
After the abolition of segregation, April 27, 1994, marked a multiracial election that brought freedom to South Africans. The day pays tribute to national heroes like Nelson Mandela and others who fought for freedom and equality.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh Holds Bilateral Meetings with SCO Member Countries

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh held bilateral meetings with his counterparts from Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) member countries in New Delhi. The meetings focused on bilateral defence-related issues and other matters of mutual interest. The SCO Defence Ministers Meeting, chaired by Rajnath Singh, will take place tomorrow, with defence ministers from China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan participating. India has also invited Belarus and Iran, current observers in the SCO, to participate in the meeting. Matters related to regional peace and security, counter-terrorism efforts, and effective multilateralism were discussed.
India's membership in the SCO since 2017 reaffirms its keenness to deepen historic ties with SCO member countries. India considers the SCO an important regional group for promoting multilateral interactions in political, security, economic, and people-to-people aspects.

Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) Uttar Pradesh Honored with HUDCO Award

Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) Uttar Pradesh received the prestigious HUDCO Award for Best Practices to Improve the Living Environment in 2022-23. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India, presented the award to Neha Sharma, State Mission Director of Uttar Pradesh. The campaign, conducted from January 14 to 24, focused on cleanliness and launched a special cleanliness drive at 75 tourist and historical places in the state. The award includes a reward of one lakh rupees.

Breast Surgeon Dr. Raghu Ram Receives Telugu Association of London Award

Renowned surgeon Dr. Raghu Ram Pillarisetti was honored with a lifetime achievement award by the Telugu Association of London (TAL). Dr. Raghu Ram is the founding director of AKIMS-Ushalakshmi Centre for Breast Diseases in Hyderabad. He is one of the youngest recipients of the award and the only person of Indian origin living outside the UK to receive this honor. The award was presented during the Ugadi 2023 celebrations organized by TAL in London.
