Forbes recently released the list of the world's top 10 highest-paid athletes in 2023. International soccer stars Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, and Kylian Mbappe secured the top three spots. Cristiano Ronaldo claimed the first position with an estimated pay of $136 million, which includes $46 million from his playing salary and bonuses, and $90 million from endorsements, appearances, licensing income, and other business endeavors. The cumulative earnings of the ten highest-paid athletes reached a staggering $1.11 billion before taxes and agents' fees, marking the highest total ever.
Forbes calculates on-field earnings based on prize money, salaries, and bonuses, while off-field earnings include sponsorship deals, appearance fees, memorabilia, licensing income, and returns from athlete-operated businesses.
The Department of Science and Technology (DST) recently released the National Manufacturing Innovation Survey 2021-22, which assessed the innovation performance of manufacturing firms in India. According to the survey, Karnataka emerged as the most "innovative" state, followed by Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu (DNH&DD), Telangana, and Tamil Nadu.
Telangana, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu showcased the highest share of innovative firms at 46.18%, 39.10%, and 31.90%, respectively. On the other hand, Odisha, Bihar, and Jharkhand reported the lowest share of such firms at 12.78%, 13.47%, and 13.71%, respectively.
The survey was conducted jointly by the Department of Science and Technology (DST) and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) in India.
Indian Railways has achieved a historic milestone by constructing the world's highest Chenab Railway Bridge in Jammu and Kashmir. Located between Bakkal and Kauri in Jammu and Kashmir, approximately 42 km from Reasi district, this bridge has successfully passed all mandatory tests. The height of the Chenab Bridge surpasses that of the Eiffel Tower, standing at 359 meters compared to the tower's height of 324 meters.
With a length of 1,315 meters, this bridge can withstand wind speeds of up to 260 kilometers per hour and can endure an earthquake of magnitude 8 on the Richter scale. Currently, a single track has been laid on the bridge. It forms a crucial link between Katra and Banihal as part of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Railway Link (USBRL), a significant project worth Rs 35,000 crore.
An integrated surveillance and firepower training exercise called 'Buland Bharat' took place in the newly operationalized high-altitude Artillery Ranges of the eastern theater. The exercise involved the coordinated application of surveillance and firepower capabilities of the Artillery, Infantry, Special Forces, Aviation, and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) deployed in West Kameng and Tawang districts of Arunachal Pradesh.
This exercise aimed to validate plans for integrated firepower by orchestrating synchronized firing from artillery guns and fire support components of the infantry, with the objective of neutralizing designated targets effectively.

Ajay Banga, an Indian-born finance and development expert, has been confirmed as the next President of the World Bank. The World Bank's 25-member executive board elected Banga to a five-year term as president. Banga, who previously served as the CEO of Mastercard, was nominated for the position by United States President Joe Biden. He will assume his new role on June 2, succeeding David Malpass, an economist and former US Treasury official.
