China Begins 3-Day Military Drills in Retaliation to Taiwan President's Meet with US House Speaker

China has initiated a three-day military exercise around Taiwan as a response to Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen's meeting with the US House Speaker. The People's Liberation Army (PLA)'s Eastern Theatre Command announced the drills, which involve 42 Chinese aircraft and eight warships surrounding the island. 
The exercises, codenamed "United Sharp Sword," aim to showcase China's capabilities in controlling sea, air, and information. The PLA stated that the drills are a necessary move to defend national sovereignty and territorial integrity, as they serve as a warning against Taiwan separatist forces' collaboration with external powers.

North Korea Tests Second Underwater Nuclear Drone in Two Weeks

North Korea has conducted another test of its underwater nuclear drone, highlighting its military prowess and strength. This test follows the firing of two short-range ballistic missiles on March 27, which occurred amid joint military exercises between Seoul and Washington. 
The nuclear-capable unmanned underwater weapon, Haeil-1, was tested for four days and successfully hit its target after cruising 1,000 km. North Korea's continuous weapons tests demonstrate its determination to assert its power in the region.

Indian Rafale to Participate in French Military Exercise with NATO

For the first time, Indian Rafale combat aircraft are expected to join a multinational military exercise named Orion, hosted by France and involving NATO and other important allies. The Indian Air Force's Western Air Command will likely deploy aircraft from the Golden Arrows squadron. 
The exercise takes place against the backdrop of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, with NATO opposing Russia's actions. The participation of Indian Rafales in such exercises enhances cooperation and interoperability among the participating nations.

PM Modi Inaugurates New Integrated Terminal Building of Chennai Airport

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a modern integrated terminal building at Chennai airport, representing a significant development in the aviation sector. The state-of-the-art terminal, constructed at a cost of Rs 2,437 crore, spans 2.20 lakh sq meters and features 108 immigration counters.
With an annual passenger handling capacity of 35 million, the terminal aims to enhance air travel experiences. The PM, accompanied by Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia and Union Minister of State L Murugan, inspected the facilities and expressed his appreciation for the project.

PM Narendra Modi Flags Off Secunderabad-Tirupati Vande Bharat Express in Telangana

Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off the Secunderabad-Tirupati Vande Bharat Express, which reduces travel time between the two cities by nearly three and a half hours. The second Vande Bharat train from Telangana, this service connects Hyderabad with the spiritual destination of Tirupati. The train will be particularly beneficial for pilgrim passengers. PM Modi also laid the foundation stone for projects worth over Rs 11,300 crore during his visit to Telangana.

PM Modi Flags Off Chennai-Coimbatore Vande Bharat Express

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 13th Vande Bharat Express train, which will operate between Chennai and Coimbatore. This high-speed express train is expected to cover the distance in 5.50 hours, saving approximately 1.20 hours compared to regular trains. 
Operating at a speed of 130 kmph, the service aims to provide efficient connectivity between the two cities. The PM was accompanied by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin and Governor RN Ravi during the inauguration.

President Droupadi Murmu Takes Sortie On IAF's Sukhoi 30 MKI Fighter Aircraft In Assam

President Droupadi Murmu embarked on a sortie aboard the Indian Air Force's Sukhoi 30 MKI fighter aircraft in Assam. She received a Guard of Honour upon her arrival at Tezpur Air Force Station. The President inaugurated the 'Gaj Utsav 2023' at Kaziranga National Park to commemorate 30 years of Project Elephant. During the event, cultural performances such as Bhortal, Jhumur, and Bihu dance were presented by Assamese artists. President Murmu also interacted with the people of Assam during the occasion.

KSINC Launches Solar-Powered Tourist Vessel

The Kerala Shipping and Inland Navigation Corporation (KSINC) has introduced a double-decked solar tourist boat named Sooryamshu. The vessel, costing Rs. 3.95 crore, can accommodate up to 100 passengers and has been certified for safety and allied features by the Indian Register of Shipping (IRS). It features an air-conditioned conference hall and a cafeteria in the lower and upper decks, respectively. The Sooryamshu will offer tour packages, including sightseeing and kayaking, to popular destinations near Kochi, providing tourists with unique experiences.
