- The National Film Awards are the most prestigious film awards in India, established in 1954. Since 1973, they have been managed by the Directorate of Film Festivals of the Indian Government, along with the International Film Festival of India and the Indian Panorama.
- Because of their nationwide scope, the National Film Awards are often considered the Indian equivalent of the American Academy Awards.
- At the 68th National Film Awards, the Best Actor Award was shared by Suriya for "Soorarai Pottru" and Ajay Devgan for "Tanhaji." Aparna Balamurali won the Best Actress Award for her performance in "Soorarai Pottru." The Tamil film "Soorarai Pottru" was also named the Best Film of the Year.
Dadasaheb Phalke Award
- The Dadasaheb Phalke Award is India's most prestigious honor in the field of cinema, awarded annually by the Government of India for a lifetime of contribution to Indian cinema.
- It was established in 1969 to mark the centenary of Dadasaheb Phalke's birth, who is regarded as the Father of Indian Cinema.
- The award includes a "Swarna Kamal" (Golden Lotus), a shawl, and a cash prize of ₹10,00,000.
