the root so what is root notice that
part of the plant which typically lies
below the surface of soil now that
doesn't really mean that if we are
talking about the root it always has to
be underground but yes that's the
general scenario or that's a common
scenario you can say so these structures
which you see here they are the rules
so roots can also be area so in certain
cases like how we had modifications of
leaves modification of stems
similarly in certain plants roots can be
modified to be area that is to be
present above the ground so in that is
they serve some different purpose so we
will have a look at that a little later
so otherwise the typical functions of a
root system are absorption of water and
minerals from the soil so in the soil
you have water and minerals are present
dissolved in water so all these water
minerals etc are taken absorbed by the
roots so plant and then from root it
goes up through the stem and then it
goes to the leaves in the leaves you
have been so veins and to that
translocate then so it also provide
proper Anchorage to plant parts now how
strongly the plant is bound to the soil
that is determined by the roots because
the roots gives that support to the
plant so how tightly the plant is like
attached to the soils so that is it
gives mechanical support to the plant

are also used for storing food synthesis
of plant growth regulators now there are
a lot of chemicals which are being
produced within the plants which help in
the growth of plants so these plant
growth regulators are also produced by
the roots now when we talk about root
system
there are two different types of root
systems so one is tap root system the
other one is the fibrous root system so
we will discuss about both of these in
detail with some examples let us now
talk about the tap root system so it is
that kind of root system where we have a
single primary root and then multiple
branches of that single use so as you
can see here here you have this one
single root it is the primary rule and
all other roots are kind of branching
from the signals so we would call this
as the primary root or the main route or
the tap root this main root is often
called as the tap root and all these are
the roots the branch the branches here
so these branches are the lateral roots
so now as I said that not every plant
will have the same pattern of roots now
sometimes we'll have it this way where
you have a single primary root and then
the lateral roots marching out of that
primary root let you some other plants
there the arrangement might be different
now this type of arrangement is seen in
mustard carrot radish beet roots turn it
so in each of these if you look at their
roots
very carefully you will be able to see
one prominent one single root and all
other lateral roots arising from that
single rule
similarly here also you see one single
root on others arising from that and the
same is true for all of these examples
so that stabbed root system now the next
type of loop system is the fibrous root
system but the name itself is fiber
accepting something which is like fiber
like very thin hair light but at the
same time it is common network rather
than having one mainly looking at the
picture itself you get an idea that you
do not have any a main root or any
single root from there are the roots are
arising it's like all of them are thin
roots and like scattered here and there
so in this several fine roots arise from

it is seen in monocots so other parts
