“The twenty-first century belongs to India”.
We have been hearing this since the last century. COVID has given us an opportunity to analyze the world order and the world before COVID. While the whole world is reeling under the challenges of COVID, it is easier for us to compare and deeply introspect the differences between the two scenarios. It should not only be our dream to be addressed as the rulers of the 21st century, but we must also understand that it is our responsibility. But the bigger question is; how do we achieve this? What is the ultimate way that makes us rule the 21st century? The present situation in the world has taught us a very essential lesson. ‘A Self-Reliant India’ is the panacea. This is the only way out! Our PM’s vision and the economic crisis triggered by the pandemic gave shape to the concept of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’. He announced an economic package of Rs 20 trillion to tide over the crisis under the Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan.
The plan, it seems, was not to significantly reduce imports but rather to reflect, develop, and strengthen home companies while reviving interest in Indian goods among Indians. The MSME sector is the one that gets priority attention. Be it collateral free loans helping to resume businesses, strengthening the supply chain or reducing the dependence on other countries. Another area is the DISCOMS, be it providing bailout packages or privatizing the DISCOMS in the UTs, all the steps are being taken for strengthening and bringing stability to the stressed sector. The Agriculture and Allied sector has always been a priority as well. Investments to support warehousing, cold storage and post-harvest management infrastructure have been done. Steps to help the Civil Aviation sector cut the operational costs have also been undertaken. The CLSS scheme for the Real Estate sector has been rolled out. India has not only developed a vaccine but also doing mass-production for the world. This indeed is an achievement in itself!
