Gyankunj E-Class Project Launched in Gujarat for Primary Students

  • The Gujarat government initiated the "Gyankunj E-Class Project" to enhance digital literacy among primary students in government-aided schools across the state. The primary objective of the Gyankunj E-Class Project is to replace traditional school bags and books with tablets, thereby bridging the gap in the education system.   • In its first phase, the project will be implemented in 2051 government schools out of the total 34,000 primary schools in Gujarat. The initial phase will cover 550 schools, and eventually, the project will extend to include students from Class V to IX in all state schools.

Gyankunj E-Class Project Details

  • According to a survey, 3173 classrooms in 2051 government primary schools have been chosen for this project. These classrooms will feature digital teaching aids, including 3D effects on smart boards. The state government will provide grants to selected schools to develop necessary infrastructure, such as whiteboards, computers, projectors, infra-red cameras, interactive software, and wireless networks, to ensure quality digital education in government schools.

Mukyamantri Yuva Swavalamban Yojana 2017-18

  • The Mukyamantri Yuva Swavalamban Yojana (MYSY), a scholarship scheme for meritorious students in Gujarat, has opened online registrations for the 2017-18 academic session. Eligible students, including those in the 10th, 12th, and diploma/graduate programs, can apply for the scholarship through the official MYSY Gujarat website at mysy.guj.nic.in. The registration process began on September 1, 2017, with the deadline set for October 31, 2017.
  • Under this scheme, the Gujarat government provides financial assistance in the form of scholarships to eligible students who demonstrate academic excellence.

NAMO E-Tablets for First-Year College Students at Rs. 1,000 by Gujarat Government

  • The Gujarat government has launched the "NAMO" (New Avenues of Modern Education through Tablets) initiative for college students, aiming to distribute e-TAB tablets to approximately 3.5 lakh first-year college students at a subsidized cost of Rs. 1,000 per tablet. The market price of these tablets is Rs. 8,000, but the government is providing them at a significantly reduced price, with the state covering the remaining cost as a subsidy.
  • The 7-inch NAMO e-TAB will come equipped with features such as voice-calling, front and back cameras, and study materials. The Gujarat government has allocated Rs. 200 crore in the budget for this scheme. Acer and Lenovo have been selected as the manufacturers for these tablets. So far, 154,960 students have registered for the tablets.

NAMO Tablet e-TAB for Students

  • The primary objective of the NAMO tablet scheme is to provide technological tools to students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, enabling them to focus on their studies. The tablets are available to students who have passed Class 12 and gained admission to college, with the goal of facilitating internet access for educational purposes.
  • This scheme is part of the Mukhyamantri Swavalamban Yojana, and interested students can apply for the tablets through their respective colleges during the admission process. Students are required to pay Rs. 1,000 to the college for the tablet, and the college will maintain records of the applications. Rooftop Solar Plant Scheme in Gujarat

Gujarat Shravan Tirthdarshan Yojana

  • Under this scheme, the government will cover 50% of the travel costs incurred by senior citizens when traveling by non-AC state transport buses within Gujarat. This subsidy is available to all senior citizens, regardless of their community.

1.20 Crore LED Bulbs Distributed Under Ujala Gujarat Yojana

  • The Ujala Gujarat Yojana, launched on May 26 by Chief Minister Anandiben Patel, has received an overwhelming response from consumers across the state. Within just two months of its launch, approximately 1.20 crore LED bulbs have been distributed to 24 lakh families under this scheme.
  • Consumers have been purchasing about 2 lakh LED bulbs daily under the Ujala Gujarat Yojana. Each household is allowed to purchase up to 10 LED bulbs. Recently, the state government reduced the prices of Ujala LED bulbs by Rs. 10, making them available at Rs. 70-75.
  • Under the scheme, a 7-watt LED bulb can be purchased for Rs. 70 in cash. Consumers also have the option to pay through EMI, which would cost Rs. 75 per bulb, with the amount being charged in 8-10 installments through their electricity bill.
  • Consumers can buy the LED bulbs by presenting their monthly electricity bill or ID cards. To facilitate the scheme, the government has established 615 distribution centers across the state.

MukhyaMantri GRUH Yojana – Housing Scheme in Gujarat

  • The MukhyaMantri GRUH Yojana, where GRUH stands for "Gujarat Rural Urban Housing," is an affordable housing scheme designed to cater to home seekers from the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) and Lower Income Groups (LIG) of society. 
  • The scheme was announced during the 12th Five-Year Plan to address the growing need for affordable housing in urban areas.

Objective of MukhyaMantri GRUH Yojana:

  • The primary objective of the scheme is to rehabilitate slums in urban areas of Gujarat by 2018.

MukhyaMantri GRUH Yojana for EWS Category:

  • Under the MukhyaMantri GRUH Yojana, the Gujarat government aims to provide a pucca house to every slum-dwelling family and those belonging to economically weaker sections. The houses for EWS will have a minimum carpet area of 25 square meters and a maximum of 30 square meters, including two rooms, a kitchen, a bathroom, and a toilet.
  • Existing slums in metropolitan, municipal, and development authority areas will be rehabilitated through in-situ construction, meaning houses will be built in the same location. If slums cannot be rehabilitated in the same place, they will be relocated to government, ULC (Urban Land Ceiling), ULB (Urban Local Body), or GHB (Gujarat Housing Board) land.

Eligibility/Selection Criteria for EWS Beneficiaries:

  • Beneficiaries will be selected based on any two of the following criteria: electricity bill, voter ID card, slum survey, or ration card.
  • The annual family income of EWS beneficiaries must be less than Rs. 1,00,000.
  • No family member should own a plot or house in the same city, and the applicant must be an adult at the time of application.
  • Beneficiaries of slum rehabilitation must have been living in slums on or before the cut-off date of December 1, 2010.
  • House allotment will be done through a computerized lottery draw.
  • Registration of houses will be done on a stamp paper of Rs. 100.
  • All allotted houses will be jointly registered in the name of both husband and wife, with the wife having the first right.
