Q. 1. Give two examples to illustrate how the elements of art such as line and shape can influence the personality of an individual.
Ans :
The element of art such as line and shape can influence the personality of an individual.
(i) Vertical lines can make a short and fat person look thin and tall. Whereas bell shaped garment would provide fullness to very thin person.
(ii) Horizontally lines create illusion of width they can be used by thin person to enhance his/her personality and straight or tubular shaped garment can be used for clinging effect.


Q. 2. Sheela leaves her 3 year old daughter in a creche. Mention four drawbacks of such an arrangement.
Ans :
The drawbacks of leaving the child in the  creche are :
(i) Creche is not neat and clean.
(ii) Creche is not able to give family love and care.
(iii) Creche is not able to provide timely fooding and drinking requirements.
(iv) Creche is very expensive.


Q. 3. If most consumer goods are available on installments, it there a need for the family to save money ? Give four reasons.
Ans :
If most consumer goods are available on installments then also there is a need for the family to save money because :
(a) Saved money can be spent at a later time for the things needed by the individual.
(b) Saved money is considered best as emergency fund.
(c) Saving canensure that retirement will not put a strain on one’s living standard.
(d) It enables one to buy goods that would otherwise be beyond one’s reach.


Q. 4. Using each of the four elements of art, suggest a suitable design of a skirt and blouse for a fat girl.
Ans :
Using the element of art, a suitable design of a skirt and blouse for a fat girl is as follows :
(i) Line - Select the cloth with vertical lines as these lines give an illusion of length and a fat person appears to be thinner.
(ii) Texture - Select the skirt and blouse of dull texture as it absorbes light and gives an illusion of reduced size.
(iii) Colour - Select red colour clothing as it gives illusion of smallness hence a fat girl will look thinner.
(iv) Form and shape - Straight and tubular form can be used as they cling to the body and make the fat person look thin.


Q. 5. What four points should be kept in mind while planning meals for a pregnant lady ?
Ans :
While planning meals for a pregnant lady, following points should be kept in mind :-
(i) Increase in protein rich foods. She needs 65 gm proteins daily.
(ii) Increase in calcuim rich foods ( needs 1000 gm).
(iii) More calories (300 Kcal extra)
(iv) More roughage.

Ans :
Benefits
(i) It is a safe method of investment.
(ii) Easy accessibility in post office and banks.
(iii) Can take loan in the 4th year.
(iv) One gets 20% tax relief.
(v) Interest is exempted from wealth tax.
(vi) Get interest at the rate of 9.5% annum.
Drawbacks
(i) Duration of scheme is too long (15 years.)
(ii) Cannot invest more than Rs. 60,000 per annum.

Ans :
Benefits of keeping household account are :-
(i) Th ese assist in keeping a check on spending behaviour.
(ii) They help in the reduction of wasteful expenditure.
(iii) One gains an insight into money availability and expenditure requirement of the family.
(iv) The householder can also determine the amount of money that can be spent on various commodities.
(v) One becomes conscious of neither borrowing nor taking loans to run the household.
(vi) Maintainin g household account facilitates the achievement of family goals.


Q. 8. Write four ways Balwadis can help in promoting the health of a child ?
Ans :

(i) They provide free immunisation to all children.
(ii) Free mid— day meals are given which are nutritious and help in child growth.
(iii) They educate the mothers on how to look after children.
(iv) Time to time health check ups are taken to see the health status of children.


Q. 9. Briefly describe the steps of laundering white cotton saree at home. Also justify the need for each step.
Ans :

(i) Removing dirt — The white cotton saree should be steeped in a soap or detergent solution for some time. After sometime use brush to remove dirt, rinse it thoroughly in water.
(ii) Finishing by blueing and starching. Apply blue on white cotton to make it look more brighter.
(iii) Drying — After th e above men tioned step, squeeze the asree, keep it in sun for drying as the sun rays will bleach the white saree thus making it whiter and brighter.
(iv) Ironing —  Once dried, sprinkel little water and iron the saree to remove wrinkles and make smooth.


Q. 10. Describe three specific symptoms of cholera and three of measles which enables you to diagnose the diseases.
Ans :

(i) Loose watery motions like rice water.
(ii) Vomiting resulting in extreme fluid and electrolyte loss.
(iii) Child gets cramps an feels extremely thirsty, suppression of urine leads to the accumulation of toxic material in the body.
Measles
(i) Cough with running nose.
(ii) Fever with the feeling of chills.
(iii) Pink rash appears first on face and neck and later on the body.
(iv) Sore eyes very sensitive to light.


Q. 11. Write four advantages of leaving small children in the care of grandparents.
Ans : 

(i) They have love and affection, so will take more care of child.
(ii) It is safe to leave the child with them.
(iii) Child learn positive traits regarding society culture and religion.
(iv) Child remains disciplined under grandparents control.


Q. 12. Suggest three modifications in the following menu for a person suffering from diarrhoea. Give reasons for your choice :— Chapati, Fried rice, Raita, Dal fried, Tomatoes and cucumber salad.
Ans : Fried rice
— Give boiled rice as fried rice will cause irritation because of oil nd spices.
Raita — Give plain curd as cucumber is roughage, it will cause irritation.
Dal fried — Boiled dal should be given because dal fried has oil and spice and causes mechanical and chemical irritation.


Q. 13. List four facilities a good creche should have.
Ans :
(i) Feeding of children. (ii) Keeping the child clean. (iii) Providing the child with rest and sleeping facilities. (iv) Medical and first-aid facilities. (v) Clean and safe creche.


Q. 14. Write the procedure for removing any two of the following stains :— (i) Ink stain from white cotton. (ii) Tea stain from coloured cotton. (iii) Blood stain from synthetic.
Ans :

(i) Ink  stain from white cotton — Rub the stain with tomato juice and rinse. Then rub with sour curd and rinse. If the stain persists rub with salt and lemon juice. Rinse well and dry in sun for total bleaching effect.
(ii) Tea stain from coloured cotton — Treat stain with lukewarm water, liquid detergent. Apply vinegar and rinse out thoroughly. If stain persits bleach with hydrogen peroxide.
(iii) Blood stain from synthetic— Treat stain with cold saline water. Apply mild acetic acid or vinegar, rinse out thoroughly.


Q. 15. Who is disabled child ?
Ans :
According to Baker “ Disabled child is one who deviates from what is supposed to be an average in physical, mental, emotional and social characteristics to such an extend that the child requires special educational services to help develop to maximum capacity.”

Q. 16. Write down the objectives of ICDS ?
Ans :

(i) Improvement of health and nutaritional status of children of 0-6 years of age.
(ii) Laying foundation for psychological, socio and physical development of the child.
(iii) Reduction in the incidence of maluntrition, morbidity, mortality and school drop-out rates among children.
(iv) Effective co-ordination of the policy and implementation among different departments in order to promote ICDS.
(v) Enhancing capabilities of mothers to look after normal health and nutritional needs of the children.


Q.  17. Ravi is suffering from fever. Keeping this in mind suggest two changes in the meal for a family given below :–  Potato vegetables, Lady finger, Boondi Raita, Puri, Banana custard.

Potato vegetables — Bioled potato with lemon juice on it. / Lady finger — Lady finger without spices. / Boondi Raita — Plain curd / Puri — Plain Chapatti  / Banana Custrard — Plain custard

Q. 18. Explain “water is the main constitutent of human body”.
Ans :
Our body is made up of large proportion of water. 65 % of the body weight is of water alone which is present in all the tissues. The percentage of water in fat individuals is lower than in lean persons. Men have more body water than women. Above 5-8.5 litres of blood circulates constantly in an adult body. The water content is tightly bound in teeth and bones. In most of the other tissues, there is a constant interchange of water in and around the cells.Thus, we can say water is the main constitutent of human body.

Ans :
The benefits of maintaining household records are as follows :

Ans :
Working woman should opt for Post Office monthly income scheme to make regular savings. In this scheme, she can deposit a fixed amount each month. The interest is worked on monthly basis. The rate of interest is 9.5% per annum.
