The Legal Aptitude section in the CLAT Exam assesses the candidate's inclination towards Law and their problem-solving ability in given time duration. The section includes questions on legal principles.  

• This is the only section of CLAT which is absolutely new for everyone. So, you need to give a little attention to this section. This section will play a defining role in securing a seat at your dream law college. 
  
• You should have a decent knowledge of important constitutional articles, landmark/recent judgments and new laws/ amendments. 
• Your legal aptitude will be tested in the principle-fact questions. Practice as many mocks and previous year papers as you can to brush up your legal reasoning skills.

1. Know what this section is all about: The first thing you should know before starting the preparation for the CLAT Legal Aptitude section is that this section is only going to test your legal reasoning. Legal reasoning is not about knowledge, it’s about reasoning as you can tell from the name. Your knowledge of the law is not being assessed here.
The legal aptitude section is divided into 3 sections as follows-
(i) Legal Reasoning
(ii) Legal Facts
(iii) Legal G.K.

(i) Legal Reasoning: This section tests a candidate’s skills in legal aptitude. The legal reasoning questions are the principle and fact-based questions wherein you are provided with a legal proposition (principle) and a set of facts to which the proposition (principle) has to be applied.

(iii) Legal GK
The legal GK section requires your awareness skills. The most reliable and the best source of preparing legal GK is a good financial newspaper. Legal GK questions include a variety of questions involving constitutional law-related-questions, fundamental rights, directive principles of state policy, amendments and landmark judgments.
Also, questions relating to current legal happenings are also asked in this section. Other than that, the meaning of legal maxims is asked.
Also, learn all the important amendments in the constitution and for preparing legal maxims you can refer to a list of important legal maxims.

2. Analyse the Syllabus: Stay updated with the Syllabus and Pattern of CLAT.  Take a look at the CLAT previous year papers, CLAT sample papers, etc to get an idea of the pattern of the CLAT exam. Going through the syllabus before starting with the preparation is really important as it will guide you in the right direction.

3. Practice and Achieve: Practice with as many previous year papers as you can get. Make a list of the principles on which questions were framed in the past. Read all of them and then mark a set of principles that have been repeated time and again. And of course, there will be a completely new set of principles every year. Be prepared for anything that you might not have expected.

4. Build your Basics: Clear your basics and fundamentals related to every topic for complete understanding. Leave no stone unturned while in the process of preparation and hence, get your doubts cleared as soon as they arise. Clearing all your doubts is very essential for you to score good marks. 

5. Make a proper Timetable: Prepare a timetable and follow it strictly. Every day you must devote time to all the important topics for the subjects. Don’t leave any of the important topics which you feel could be asked in the exam. Give equal importance to all the sections and don't skip any.
Time management is essential before as well as during the CLAT exam. Students should have an idea of how much time they should spend on the legal aptitude section ideally. here is a quick tip for time management during exams:
Total time to allocate to this section – 25 to 35 minutes
Direct questions- 30-35 seconds
Tricky questions- 40 seconds to maximum 1 minute.

6. Test your Knowledge: Make a habit of practicing with CLAT online mock tests available which would help you get hold of the pattern asked in exams.
