q The framers of the Consti tution sought to incorporate the good provisions of a number of foreign Constitutions in order to avoid defects and loopholes that might come in future in the working of the Constitution.
Thus, they framed the chapters on:
l Fundamental Rights on the model of American Constitution;
l Directive Principles on the model of Constitution of Ireland;
l Emergency provisions on the model of German Reich and Govt. of India Act, 1935;
l The parl iamentary system of Government has been modelled on the British system.
q The Indian Constitution lays down the structure not only of the Central government but also of the States.
In contrast, the US Const itution leaves the States to draw up their own Constitutions.
q The vastness of the country and peculiar problems relating to language have added to the bulk of the Constitution.
