Organic Chemistry for IIT JAM is very vast and the topics are usually interrelated with each other. You can not go on a topic before understanding the previous topic.  

Here's a step-by-step strategy that will help you in preparing for Organic Chemistry and get a good rank in IIT JAM Chemistry.

Step- 1: Start with GOC and then Stereochemistry

• GOC: General Organic Chemistry is the ABC of organic chemistry. Organic chemistry questions are of mixed type generally, but to solve the mixed questions you need to be well aware of the basic concepts. Understanding GOC is a must to start Organic Chemistry. 

• Stereochemistry: Go for Stereochemistry after covering GOC. Stereochemistry is a high weightage topic that carries great marks every year. After studying stereo study intermediates which are: Carbocation, Carboanion, Carbenes, Free Radicals, Nitrene. Go for reagents or reaction mechanisms afterward. 

• Reagents: Make short notes and revise them again and again. Reagents play a very big role in organic chemistry. Revise reagents daily for 15 to 20 minutes otherwise, they will get skip from your mind. If you know the specific role of reagents and you don't know the entire reaction mechanism then with the help of reagents only you can eliminate the options and can solve the question easily. 

• Name Reactions: this is a topic that carries a lot of weightage too. Give emphasis on studying it too. 

Step-2: Do not skip Independent Topics like Natural Products, Biochemistry, Spectroscopy

• Interlinked Organic: Organic is a subject that is interlinked. All the topics are interrelated to each other. So, you should not skip any topic in organic. If you skip any topic from GOC, Stereo, intermediates, Reagents, Name Reactions, and Reaction Mechanism, then you won't be able to grasp the concepts of all these topics. 

• Independent Topics: These topics are independent topics, and are easy to score as they do not ask very difficult questions from them. These topics are a must cover too. 
  
  

Step-3: Books for practicing as well as concept building
