  • Mahatma Gandhi, born on October 2, 1869, earned the title "Father of the Nation" due to his immense sacrifices for India's independence. He not only led India to freedom but also inspired numerous other independence and human rights movements worldwide. Popularly known as Bapu, Gandhi advocated nonviolent resistance and non-cooperation with the British as a means to achieve independence.
  • Subhas Chandra Bose, born on January 23, 1897, was a highly successful Indian nationalist known as Netaji. He played a prominent role in the radical faction of the Indian independence movement. Leading the radical young wing of Congress, he was a fervent nationalist. Bose's ultimate fate remains a mystery, but it is believed he died in an aviation accident on August 18, 1945.
  • Bhagat Singh, born on September 28, 1907, was a radical Indian freedom fighter who became a respected figure in the fight for India's independence. He was involved in a plot to avenge Lala Lajpat Rai's death and assassinate a British police superintendent. The British executed this heroic freedom fighter on March 23, 1931, when he was just 23 years old. He is remembered as Shaheed Bhagat Singh.
  • Mangal Pandey, born on July 19, 1827, is considered a forerunner of India's first war for independence, the 1857 uprising against the British. As a soldier in the East India Company's army, he led the Sepoy rebellion, which eventually sparked the 1857 uprising. British officers killed him on April 8, 1857, in anticipation of a Sepoy uprising.
  • Rani Laxmi Bai, born on November 19, 1828, in Varanasi, was the Queen of Jhansi and a valiant soldier in the Revolutionary War. She inspired Indian women to fight for freedom and defend their rights. She bravely defended her fortress with her infant child during a British invasion in 1858. She died in battle on June 18, 1858, in Gwalior.
  • Jawaharlal Nehru actively participated in the freedom struggle and spent a total of 9 years in prison between 1921 and 1945. He was a leader in the United Province's Non-Cooperation movement and played a key role in the salt satyagraha. On August 15, 1947, he became India's first prime minister.
  • Lala Lajpat Rai, also known as Punjab Kesari, was a prominent member of the Indian National Congress. He played a significant role in various social and educational initiatives. He participated in demonstrations against British policies, including the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre, the Rowlatt Act, and the Partition of Bengal.
  • Bal Gangadhar Tilak, along with Lala Lajpat Rai and Bipin Chandra Pal, founded the hardline wing of the Indian National Congress. He promoted nationalism through the Ganeshotsav and Shivaji Utsav celebrations and used publications like Mahratta and Kesari to spread the cause of national freedom.
  • Jyotiba Phule, a social reformer, championed women's education and founded India's first girls' school. He established the Satyashodhak Samaj to advocate for social rights and political access for marginalized sections of society.
