suspense please what is the meaning of
this film it means one part out of ten
parts of a number so for anything let us
look at an example let's say that you
have a ribbon of length say 50
millimeter so let us say that the length
of this ribbon is 50 millimeter now you
measure it using a scale so you take a
scale where the measurements are in
centimeters and you see that the length
of this ribbon is 5 centimeters so as
for the scale which you have used you
found that the length is 5 centimeter so
what exactly does that mean how why is
it fun because we knew that it is 50
millimeter but now when you measure it
with the scale you see that it is 5
centimeter well 5 centimeter and 50
millimeter they are basically the same
thing why is that so that's because when
you look at the scale very closely you
would see that every 1 centimeter is
divided into 8 equal small divisions now
you see from 0 to 1 you have 1 2 3 4 5 6
7 8 9 10 10 equal to visions similarly
from 1 to 2 centimeters you again have
10 equal divisions 2 to 3 centimeter
again have 10 equal division so
basically everywhere you see for every 1
centimeter has been divided into a 10
equal parts and one such part one such
part is 1 millimeter so this is 1
millimeter so this is 1 mm this is 2 mm
this is 3mm 4mm 5mm 6 mm 7 8 9 and 10 so
10 millimeter is equal to 1 centimeter
so what do you see looking at this K you
see that 1 centimeter is equal to
10-millimeter if i ask you what is one
millimeter equal to that is one
millimeter is equal to how much
centimeter so this is one millimeter
right so this much one millimeter is one
part out of ten parts of one centimeter
right so one millimeter is equal to one
part out of ten parts of centimeter and
one by ten is 0.1 centimeter so we can
say that one millimeter is equal to 0.1
centimeter so with this example you get
to see that one tenth means one part out
of ten parts of a number now let's say
that the length of your ribbon so you
thought that the length of your ribbon
is 5 centimeter but now you see that
you're deliberately bigger than 5
centimeter so when you actually measure
rate you see that it is 5 centimeter 2
millimeter that means 5 centimeter plus
2 millimeters or after 5 centimeter also
you have 2 small divisions for 2
millimeters now tell me something is
this a better way of representing the
length or if you represent it in
decimals that would be a better way so
how would you represent it in decimals
so this would actually mean 5
centimeters plus 2 millimeter and 2
millimeter would be 2 divided by 10
centimeters that is 2 division out of 10
divisions of centimeter so 2 millimeter
would mean 2 divisions like this out of
10 divisions of 1 centimeter so this
would be 5 centimeter plus 0.2
centimeters so this would be 5 point 2
centimeters now which is a better way of
representing the length 5
or 5.2 centimeters so obviously this is
a more convenient way to represent this
the length of the ribbon 5.2 centimeter
so you see in a lot of places we would
see that representing in decimal number
is more convenient and it is an easier
way to express to express any quantity
so this is about ends this is about the
tenths place so whenever a digit is
located at the tenths place we always
multiply that digit by 1 by 10 because
then mean one part out of n parts
