Introduction

The Mandi Conspiracy of 1914-15, also known as Ghadar Ki Goonj, Ghadar Sandesh, and Ailan-e-Jung, was a revolutionary movement in response to the oppression and forced labor imposed by Raja Bhawani Sen and his minister Jiva Nand Padha in the princely state of Mandi.

Background

• Mandi Jan Andolan (1909): The movement began in 1909 under the leadership of Shobha Ram of Sarkaghat, with the goal of opposing forced labor and oppressive governance.
• Hardev Ram's Involvement (1913): Hardev Ram joined the movement in 1913, bringing further strength to the cause.
• Hirda Ram's Participation (1914): In 1914, another revolutionary, Hirda Ram, joined the movement, enhancing its momentum.

Ghadar Movement Influence

• The movement, influenced by the Ghadar Movement, sought to ignite a revolutionary spirit among the people of Mandi. 
• Though the movement ultimately failed, its spirit continued to inspire future resistance.

Financial Support

• Mian Jawahar Singh and the Queen of Khairigarh provided financial assistance to the revolutionaries, enabling them to sustain their efforts.

Praja Mandal Conference (1946)

• Despite the failure of the early revolution, its legacy persisted. A significant Praja Mandal Conference was held in Mandi from 8 March 1946 to 10 March 1946, with Colonel G.S. Dhillon presiding over it. Forty-five representatives participated in the conference.
• The conference aimed to form a body of elected representatives from all the hill states, laying the foundation for the creation of Himachal Pradesh.
