(a) Stem absorbs water and minerals from the soil.

Answer: Root absorbs water and minerals from the soil.

(b) Leaves hold the plants upright.

Answer: Stem holds the plants upright.

(c) Roots conduct water to the leaves.

Answer: Stem conducts water to the leaves.

(d) The numbers of petals and sepals in a flower is always equal.

Answer: The number of petals and sepals in a flower can be equal or different.

(e) If the sepals of a flower are jointed, then the pistil is jointed to the petal.

Answer: It may or may not be true.

(f) If the petals of a flower are jointed together, then the pistil is jointed to the the petal.

Answer: It may or may not be true.

Question: 2. Can you find a plant in your house or in your neighborhood, which has a long but a weak stem? Write its name .In which category would you classify it?

Answer- In my neighborhood, there are many pumpkin plants. They have weak and long stem. The plant is spread on ground. It is an example of creepers.

Question: 3. What is the function of a stem in plant?

Answer- The stem carries water and minerals from the roots to different parts of the plant.

It gives support to the plant.

It bears leaves, flowers and fruits.

The stem carries food made by the leaves to the other parts of the plant.

Question: 4. Which of the following leaves have reticulate venation?

Wheat, tulsi, maize, grass, coriander, China-rose.

Answer: China-rose, coriander

Question: 5. If a plant has fibrous root, what type of venation do its leaves likely to have?

Answer: Parallel venation.

Question: 6. If a plant has leaves with reticulate venetion, what kind of roots will it have?

Answer- Tap root.

Answer: Leaves of some plants can be recognized by touching or by smelling. For example; coriander leaves can be easily recognized by their smell.
