Dr James Naismith in 1891 developed the game of basketball at the Springfield College of Physical Education Massachusetts, USA.

  • In the winter of 1891-1892 James Naismith at Springfield College (then known as the International YMCA Training School) developed the game of basketball for the first time.

The three fundamental skills of basketball are as follows:

  • Passing: This happens when one player throws the ball to another player with the purpose of setting up a play or taking a shot.
  • Shooting: This consists of launching the ball toward the basket of the opponent’s court in an arcing motion with the purpose of it going in and scoring points.

The two fouls in Basketball are as follows:

  • Personal Fouls: It is a foul which is imposed on the player in situations where the player tries to harm the other player physical by contact. These fouls occur during holding the hand of the other player, pushing the opponent, or running against the other player, or intervention in the progress of the other player.
  • Technical Fouls: These fouls are special type of fouls which involves the players on the floor or seared on the beach including the team coach. There are total 6 categories of Technical fouls which are Excessive timeouts, conduct of the player, number of players in the court, delay of the game, fighting fouls, basket ring supports.


Q.6. Why there is provision for substitution of players during a basketball match?

  • Substitutions of players during a basketball match is very much essential as the players keep running throughout. This may cause tiredness or fatigue to any player which ultimately would harm the team. If any player is committing too many fouls, it becomes essential to make a substitution and send a new player on ground.
  • Also, this game may lead to some kind of injuries to player which also leads to a substitution. So, the coach of the team monitors the situation and calls for a substitution whenever essential.

The Five rules of the football game are as follows:

  • The circumference of the ball used in the match must be 58-61cm and be circular in shape. 
  • The entire ball must cross the goal line for it to be considered as a goal.
  • Each team can have 7 substitute players.
  • Substitutions can be done at any time of the match and each team and each team is capable of making maximum of 3 substitutions per side. When a player commits 4 fouls, the he receives either a yellow or red card depending on the severity of the foul done.
  • A match must consist two halves. Each half has a time period of 45 minutes with a 15-minute rest period in between.

  • If you’re not fully concentration, let's face this by doing some work on general fitness levels on a day-to-day life. And you will be ready to give your best performance.
  • To improve your fitness level, some of the great cardiovascular activities includes running, cycling and swimming. With more dribbling twists and tricks, you can combine it with running, doing hurdles, pull-ups and using parachute running for speed.

The equipment required to play the game of Hockey is:

  • Hockey Stick: On the field of battle of hockey, the hockey stick is like your weapon used to hit the ball.
  • Helmet: The helmet acts as a shield for your head and face which protects from injury. 
  • Shoes: The most suitable shoes for a grass field are cleats. And for better grip, you need to have soles with large studs.
  • Ball: A hard dark and dense like rubber ball is also required.
  • Chest Pad: It is padded in front of the chest and thick pad protects the goalie’s torso.
  • Arms and Elbow Protector: Without you arm and elbow protector, your body armour wouldn’t completed which saves our arms and elbows.
  • Throat protector: It is designed to protect the throat and neck from high shots which is wrapped around your neck.
  • Mouth and Shin Guards: For a worn-in the mouth, the mouth guard is important. From up to the bottom of their knee caps, all must cover the athletes entire ankles is Shin Guards.
  • Goalie girdles: For extra protection to the upper legs, hips and groin from shots the goalie girdles used.
  • Kickers: Usually comes with leg guards as a set, Kickers also protect your legs and shin.


Q.17. What is the protective gear that the goalkeeper should wear?

  • The protective gear that the goalkeeper should wear is shin guard or shin pad. It protects the goalkeeper from injury. It is worn on the front of an athlete‘s shin as the most important equipment.
  • A keeper must use these regularly during it's raining and a match Not only this, but also arm and elbow guards, body armor, jocks and hinge pads etc. can also be used to just to safeguard them from injury.

  • The penalty for a player playing with the rounded side of the Hockey stick is shown a green card by the umpire which indicates as a warning to the player. A green card provides a 2-minute pause during which the opposite player uses the time and that player's team competes with one less player.
  • And if the corresponding player gets another green card then it will changes to the yellow card which means a total 5-minute pause in the game. Cards can change a player who can't compete more from an exposed player.

  • The penalty stroke or penalty flick is given in hockey when a foul done by an attacker who prevented a certain goal from being scored. It is the most severe penalty given. Also, when the rules are broken by the defender in the penalty circle.
  • This penalty stroke is between two persons: one attacking person and the other defending goalkeeper. The penalty spot is the place from where this penalty stroke is taken. If the ball completely crosses the line then it's a goal.


Q.20. Write any five important rules of the Kabaddi.

Here are the five important rules of the Kabaddi:

  • Team: A number of players is most important for each team. A team must have 10 minimum players and 12 maximum players in its match-day playing squad. At a time only 7 players shall take the ground at a time and the remaining 3-5 players shall be kept as substitutes.
  • Time Duration: Divided equally into two halves, the duration of the match shall be 40 minutes minimum of 40 minutes along with 5 minutes interval between halves. After The interval, the teams will change sides.
  • Scoring System: One point is scored for every opponent out or put-out in each team. Extra two points are given when the side, which scores an All-Out. For every bonus point, each team shall score one point. When there are only 3 defenders or less and the raider is caught, then an additional bonus points awarded to the defending team. The total of 2-points is given.
  • Time Out: One “Time Out” of 90 Seconds is allowed to each team per match. Any of the Captain, coach or any playing member of the team is being called in this time out. Teams are not allowed to leave the ground during a time-out.
  • Consultation of Coach: Per match, 1 In-Play Coach Consultation is allowed to each team. In this time, coaches can guide their teams and the clock of the match will continue.

  • For men, the dimensions of the Kabaddi court is 13 X 10 meters.
  • For boys and women, the dimensions of the Kabaddi court is 11 x 8 meters.


Q.22. Which fundamental skills were you able to develop the best in kabaddi and why?

  • In Kabaddi, the always being in under pressure are the Raiders, since no of defenders are more and they have to fight against all solo. So, the fundamental skill I were able to develop the best in kabaddi is "Raiding".
  • Within seconds, good raiders can change the whole scenario of the match with its good tactics and techniques.  The raider has to maintain the ‘cant’ while withholding his breath during the raid or attack in the opponent's court. All defenders waiting to take them down at the slightest error and get the point.
  • Perhaps, to keep defenders on their toes, a number of techniques and decisions made within fractions of a second. By this skill, they get a touchpoint or Bonus point.


Q.23. List down the factors required to improve a player’s performance in the game of kabaddi?

The main factors required to improve a player’s performance in the game of kabaddi are: 

  • Building Endurance and stamina: To sustain prolonged exercise for a long stretch of time, Endurance is that ability to recover from injuries. For a Kabaddi player, the mist important is Endurance and stamina as the game requires a lot of energy and is a quick game. With a combination of intensity and willpower, one must train and should not give up easily. And stamina is built by cardio exercises like walking, jogging and swimming. Stamina will automatically increase with the Increase in the duration of cardio exercises day by day.
  • Improve Fitness Level: The fitness level of a person improves the performance as it also builds strength both physically and mentally which is very much required in Kabaddi. Doing regular exercising helps you in maintaining your fitness level. But make sure it should be in continuity so that you stay fit and fine. To improve your fitness level, you can do cardio and stretching exercises, strength training, swimming, running and cycling and many more to be a well-rounded fitness regime.
  • Concentration building: If you want to excel in Kabaddi, the most important is building concentration. A player must be calm and concentrated on the field of Kabaddi to devise all strategies of the opponent team.
  • The need for Speed and power: One of another essential factors in Kabaddi is Speed. Within seconds, players are required to cover short distances (called sprints) on the mat. As a raid lasts for 30 seconds so a raider burns more calories than a defender.
  • Focus on Strengthening: Kabaddi is an extremely physical sport; Strengthening is the core that transfers energy from the lower body to the upper body. When a raid clashes with a defender it becomes a crucial condition and strength is more required.

The most important two rules of play Kho-Kho:

  • Duration of Match: With two innings in a match consists of chasing and running. The time duration of each turn is 9-minutes each. With a total of 8 members in a row, the team sits adjacent members facing opposite directions and other team players run.
  • Number of Players: Each team consists of 12 Players along with a Coach and a Manager. At the beginning of the match, only 9 Players will take the field to start the match. Other remaining members are kept as substitutes.


Q.25. List the chasing skills in Kho-Kho.

The chasing skills in Kho-Kho:

  • Change of direction: While chasing the player, the chaser team player must keep his foot out of the box with care. The foot of the player decides where he has to go. If he changes the direction after stepping then it's counted as a foul.
  • Tapping: Timing is the most important for Tapping skill. A defender moving traverse to the direction of chasing on the central lane or just ahead.
  • Pole Diving: This type of diving is done with the support of pole and the chaser make sure he dives to catch the opponent team runners.
  • Fake Kho: The chaser pretends that he has given a Kho but it's a Fake Kho to deviate the attention or disturb the chaser actually.
  • Sudden Kho: Making it hard for a runner to avoid getting caught, the chaser gives immediate Kho to a teammate.
  • Giving Kho: When a chaser tries to give a signal to sitting chaser, the chaser must say “Kho”. This is known as Giving Kho so that chaser can get off from the square.


Q.26. Which fundamental skill did you enjoy the most in Kho-kho and why?

The fundamental skill I enjoyed the most in Kho-Kho is Dodging. The meaning of dodge differs in Kho-Kho for attacker and defender both:

  • Attacker: An attacker gives a dodge near pole while chasing the defender. The person sating near pole gets an illusion Kho-Kho but it's a dodge by the attacker. To take the wicket he suddenly dives onto the pole.
  • Defender: Defender can try to disturb the attacker to change his shoulder direction so that escape easily. He faces to the attacker in the mid area. He changes his body posture by chest movement and using all the pressure on toes.


Q.27. Explain any one fundamental skill of the kho-kho game.

Chasing skills: 

  • Giving kho: A signal in which a member of the chasing team touches his teammate on the back and says “Kho”. This implies that the teammate who has been touched needs to chase down the opponent. Just like passing the baton. This can be done as many times as needed to trap the runner.
  • When the receiver gets the kho he becomes the chaser now. He decides in which direction he wants to go and catch the runner quickly. Once he reaches the pole, he can decide whichever side of the centre lane he wants to go so as to catch the runner.
  • He can touch the runner by extending arms, diving, sprinting, pole diving and side diving. This is called “trapping”. Once he traps the runner, the runner is considered as out and the chaser gets a point.


Q.28. What is the name of the apex body which controls the game of Kho-kho in India?

The game kho-kho was originated from Maharashtra, India. The sports body that controls Kho-Kho in India is called the Kho-Kho Federation of India (KKFI). This body was established in 1956. The KKFI controls kho-kho in all the states of India and conducts Mini, Junior and Open National Championship for men and women, in various parts of India.

  • There are six players in one team of volleyball. Every time the team wins a point, it has to rotate the positions of every player clockwise before the serve.
  • The rotation is done by only one position i.e the player on position 2 comes to position 1 to serve, and the player on position 1 goes to position 6 and so on till every player has changed his position to one spot in a clockwise direction. In this way every player gets to serve.
  • The rotation is applied only when the team wins a point and gets a right to serve.

A line between the balk line and end line is called a bonus line. A bonus point is given to the raider for crossing the bonus line on the ground if he makes sure that no other part of his body is touching the area between the midline and the bonus line.

A point is given to the opposite team each time when a player is out. However, when the entire team is out, the opposite team is given two additional points as a bonus along with a single point. This is called Lona.
