Why Do We Need Clothes?

We need clothes because clothes give us protection and they also keep our bodies warm. We need clothes to protect ourselves from heat, dust, rain and cold. 

Different Types of Clothes

• Early humans who lived many years ago, lived in caves, hunted animals, and wore clothes made of leaves and animal skin. 
• With time, clothes became an important part of life. Humans realized that clothes protected them from heat, cold, dust, rain, and insects.

What are the Materials Used to Make Clothes?

Clothes are made from a variety of materials like Cotton, Wool, Leather etc.

Cotton Clothes

• Cotton clothes like shirts, pants, shorts, dresses, sarees, etc., are generally worn during the summer season. 
• Cotton clothes are light. 

Cotton Plant

• They absorb sweat and keep the body cool. We get cotton from the cotton plant.

Woolen Clothes

• Leather is also a material that is used for making clothes. These clothes are made from the skins of animals such as crocodiles, snakes, rabbits, camels, etc.
•  The skins of protected animals are no longer used, and synthetic leather or artificial leather is used for making clothes, bags, coats, and shoes.

Plastic & Rubber

• Plastic and Rubber are used for making raincoats, boots, and jackets. These are worn in the rainy season.
  

  

Jute

• Jute is used for making dresses, bags, sacks, mats, etc. We get jute fiber from the jute plant.
  

Silk

• Silk is also used for making sarees, dresses, shirts, dress pieces, scarfs, etc. Silk thread is obtained from silkworms.

Different People, Different Clothes

• People in different states of India wear different kinds of clothes. These clothes are known as traditional clothes. 
• People doing different kinds of workwear different clothes. These are known as uniforms.
• Students wear uniforms while going to school. Nurses, doctors, policemen wear uniforms to their workplace. 
  
• Uniforms help in identifying the people wearing them from other people. For example, we can spot a policeman easily on the road by seeing his uniform.
