What is the Meaning of Family?

 A family is two or more people who are connected by biology, adoption, marriage, or strong emotional bonds. All family members usually love and care for each other very much.

• We live with our parents and sometimes, with other relatives like grandparents, uncles, aunts, and cousins. 
• This is called our family. 
• All family members live happily together and love, and care for each other. Every family is different.

What are the Different Types of Family?

Large Family: Rahul's Family

• Rahul lives with his family in an old house, in Shimla. 
• This house belongs to his grandfather, Lala Rajmal. Rahul's grandmother, Kamla Devi, helps women from the nearby village to make jams. 
• Rahul's father, Mr. Raj Kumar, owns a garage. His mother, Mrs. Shila Kumar, teaches music. 
• Rahul has two elder sisters and one younger brother.
• This is a large family.

Nuclear Family: Rahul's Uncle's Family

• Rahul's uncle, Mr Prem Kumar, lives about a kilometer away. 
• He lives with his wife, Rama, and two daughters named Shruti and Smriti. 
• This is a small family or nuclear family.

• A family with parents, grandparents, uncles, aunts, and cousins living in one house is called a joint family.

• Sometimes, children are brought up either by their father or their mother. This is called a single-parent family.

A Happy Family Helps Each Other

• A happy family is one where all the members care for each other. They spend time with each other and also help each other. 
• Rahul's family celebrates birthdays and festivals together. They like to go for vacations, visit friends and play games on weekends or holidays. The household work is shared by everyone. 
• Rahul's father does the shopping and drops his children to school. Rahul's mother and father both manage the house. They both do the household chores like washing, cleaning, and cooking.

All family members should help each other in household chores

• The children also help their parents by packing their school bags, doing their homework on their own and finishing it on time, keeping their rooms and cupboards clean, and changing their clothes on their own. 
• Sometimes, children even water the plants at home. They help their parents whenever possible. The family members support each other if there is any problem. 
• The family members share their day's stories after they come back home from school and work. There is domestic help in many families. They help us keep our house clean.
  Family with pets
• They too become part of a family. Many families have pets. Pets are also part of the family. A family is the first place where children receive education. Adults in the family teach children how to respect elders and other members of the family.
